: wow, now my car really is a Rotten Egg
JimmyNX2000 08-24-2002, 12:23 PM as the subject states, my car stinks like rotten eggs/sulfur. ive talked to several of you guys on here, and ive searched alot. and it is my cat. me and my dad agree on this one. sooooooo, heres my plan. im just going to get a test pipe made. thier cheap, and i like them. i have no emmissions laws up here so its no bigee. and ive read mixed things about the exhaust smelling with a testpipe. some did, some didnt. but anyway, can i get some feedback on what to do and how to get this thing made? or could i just go into a muffler/exhaust shop that i know of and talk to them and they would know what i mean and would need to have. also, would it be wise to throw on a dynomax muffler on there for a bit while i have this system rigged up. it would just be on there for a while, not long, because i think i am getting a job finally so i will save up for a nice muffler and exhaust then, but i dont want to put up with this smell any longer and i dont want ot have so much flow going into my muffler that i goes out on me real quick after i do it. thanks guys!
JimmyNX2000 08-24-2002, 04:42 PM Comon!! some one has to know somethin about this ! someone please reply.
SuperblkStalion 08-24-2002, 06:44 PM i bought my test pipe off ebay. just email the seller and tell him you wanna pay 20 bux for one and include shipping ane he will do it. worth it if it already comes with bolts and flanges

SuperblkStalion 08-24-2002, 06:51 PM p.s. i hate you for having no emissions laws, CA sucks ass!!!!
Sr20 B12 08-24-2002, 10:22 PM Do you know what is the weirdest thing I found in a cat? Peices of a BIRD!!! Don't ask me how it got in their (it wasn't a pretty sight).

frkpwr 08-25-2002, 01:06 AM Pollution sucks!! Just replace the cat. . .
You can get a 2.25" Catco cat from www.summitracing.com for ~$60 and have a muffler shop weld flanges on it and intall it. Then you can sleep well at night knowing you're not dirtying up the air we all share.
Ben
AaroNX 08-25-2002, 01:09 AM I dirty up the air for everyone! I have no cat, no resonator, and a straight through muffler. Its really really loud too.
FastRedB14 08-25-2002, 01:28 AM yeah..we have no emissions or inspections out here..but i encourage installation of a catalytic converter. would you rather have 1-2hp more now..or a healthy planet for your kids?
frkpwr 08-25-2002, 01:31 AM AaroNX, I'd be willing to bet that adding a cat to your setup wouldn't slow your car down by any noticeable amount.
Ben
AaroNX 08-25-2002, 01:37 AM I agree that it wouldn't make that much of a difference. Clark Steppler(JWT) said that it would be around 5hp difference. The only reason I don't have one is because mine messed up and he told me that none of the aftermarket ones flowed better or would last as long as the stock one. Then he told me that the stock ones cost a whole lot of money, so for the time being I don't have one at all.
frkpwr 08-25-2002, 01:43 AM Just to be clear, I'm not trying to be a bitch about this or anything. It's just, the way I see it, if we can all CHOOSE to accept some of the responsibility individually, then the gov't and treehuggers will have much less reason to tell us what we HAVE to do. Basically there would be no reason for states/feds to impose emmisions testing/regulations if everyone kept their cars running clean voluntarily.
Ben
94sentraSER 08-25-2002, 02:42 AM sunuvabitch!!!! are you trying to tell me that all i gotta do is register my car as being in rockford and i dont hafta go for emissions???? i have a cousin who lives in rockford maybe im going to have to speak to him about having my plates register to his addy and then i can run a test pipe all the time , i live in the NW burbs of Chicago and i gotta go and have my emissions test done ( which by the way i have already passed ) its's just a big ass hassle to install the CAT when i gotta go and take the test and then i gotta uninstall the CAT and put the test pipe back on after i pass the test, i'm a fat lazy ass and it's too much work for me, screw the planet, the gov doesnt give a rats ass anyways, i see busses all the damn time spewing out all kinds of black smoke, why can't one little 4 banger spew??? fugg it i got a way around it anyway :::::::::::: giving a raspberry to the gubment:::::::
Crono1321 08-25-2002, 02:46 AM Well said! Jimmy, like I said, just get a new cat don't fret about the test pipe.
94sentra...I don't understand. Why are you so angry with the Earth that you want to blow it up. You are right now because of it. If if wasn't here you wouldn't exist, much less be so grievously misguided as to want to turn it to waste. I get pissed too when I see buses, but think about it. Its all the same really. If those 100 people weren't on the bus, all of them would be driving cars, raising your gas prices, your car insurance, putting about 10x more CO into the ozone layer.
BTW, regarding the bird....I guess the cat ate the bird! :p BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!:p

94sentraSER 08-25-2002, 03:08 AM no, i'm not upset with the earth at all but because i dont have a license to run an engine without a cat, the gov feels as *** i should be punished, so you're telling me that all drag cars have cats and all nascar stock cars have them too? i highyl doubt it, they have licenses to run engines without cats, and besides i know ppl who have faulty cats and they still drive.........uuugghhhh damn the law.....
FastRedB14 08-25-2002, 09:13 AM you can't compare off-road to on roadvehicles. the on roads are because they spend so much time driving. off-road cars contribute to like 1% of the pollution.
Serban 08-25-2002, 12:42 PM I really dont think that running without a cat will make the earth melt or anything. I choose to keep one on my car so it can be a little quieter. If I wanted to squeeze every hp out of my engine, the cat would have been gone long ago.
Just look at how many old V8 cars run around with smoke pouring out of them. Our cars dont run like that, one of those cars probably does as much polluting as 10 SE-Rs, so if you're going to bitch to anyone about saving the earth, it should eb these guys :D
94sentraSER 08-25-2002, 01:34 PM AMEN brother........hallelujah!!! praise the lord, and i also don't think that one teeny tiny engine is going to destroy the earth singlehandedly.......it would take me um approximately 2.8 billion years for my lil car to do that , um and if my calculations are correct.....i'll be dead by then...........lol
frkpwr 08-25-2002, 02:28 PM If everybody says, "Hey, my one little car won't hurt anything", then it becomes every car on the road. 94sentraSER, how about 2.8 billion little cars having the same effect in one year?
And I would bitch at the people driving those smokey jalopies, cruising around belching smoke if and when I get the opportunity.
My main point is: you don't get much performance benefit, so why do it? It's not about "saving the earth", it's about taking a little bit of personal responsibility for your actions, and considering how those actions can affect others.

MauiBlueGride 08-25-2002, 05:31 PM Actually in KY, they found that the cars weren't the problem, we've got a emissions testing every 2 years and they were going to do away with it, but the idiots that set it up with an outside company signed a 10yr contract... I saw #'s in the paper once but something like 97+% of cars passed on the first try....
Granted KY is nothing like Cali or other large packed states...

Monsoon 08-25-2002, 06:11 PM my car has an exhaust leak and the egr is unplugged. i'm bad. ;)
