Hey all! I'm having problems with my trunk! I can open it from the lever on the inside of my car, but it won't open with my key from the outside! What could be wrong? When I try to turn the key it just won't budge! Has anyone else ever had this problem?

My doorlocks are funny... gotta have the right touch. Try jigglin, pullin teh key out a bit and turn it. You may find this will pop it. Dunno, it works on my car. Just be gentle.

Is it a new key you've cut?

Try spraying some WD-40 in the jam.

Mine used to fly open driving down the road. You can imagine the trouble that caused me on a rainy day with my amps in the trunk! So I replaced the latch.
Now it won't open with a key or the release inside. One person has to pull the trunk open while the other pulls the release. It's a real PITA. But at least you can open yours from the inside chick.

There are two keys that came with mine. One only opens the trunk and the other was for the ignition and the ret of the locks. Its completely idiotid if you ask me but thats the way mine came.

Did buy your car new? If not, someone may have replaced the lock in the trunk. I bought my car new, and 1 key does everything.

YEY! I figured out how to open my trunk with the key! I went on the nissanforums website and a guy there told me to point the key kinda upward, and than it should open. Well, it worked! I'm still going to spray some WD-40 or something in there too though because I didn't really get to the root of the problem, although it opens everytime with no problem now!

yeah, same with me thomas. someone told me too lossen the 2 10mm nuts on the inside of the latch and reposition it untilk it works, but it never worked. i dunno. i guess ill follow the release cable next. if it aint that then it has to be the latch.

I had the same problem...took it back and it apparently was a valet switch on the trunk lock/latch mechanism. You can easly bump it and knock the switch, which in turn wont let the trunk close or open. I cant figure out where the damn doohickey is though, and the dealer covered the time under warrantee. I believe what I am talking about is much more of a "trunk wont close" issue

I've got a very similar problem. While I was replacing the rear shocks/struts, I bumped something on the truck latch (heard it click), now I can't open it from the inside. The key still works from the outside, but nothing from the inside. The cable is still attached to the release mechanism, but won't open the latch.

Any clues?

I forgot all about that. Going from memory (it's been a LONG time since I've looked at it), there's a small upside down "L" piece of metal in the latch on the bumper, I think it's on the left side of the latch. That piece can be pushed down or pulled up, and it disables the remote release by the drivers seat. Sorry for the lame explanation, hope I explained it OK.

Thanks, Chris.

I'll check that POS out tonight when I get home. It's kinda annoying to have to shut the engine off when I need to get something into or out of the trunk in a hurry. (Believe it or not, it happens since I use 2 vehicles for my commuting).

I didn't notice that you had a B14, mine is a B13. I don't know if the B14 latch is similar.

Yes, the b14 is the same way. The valet switch is on the "car" portion of the latch, and it's a little L shaped piece. Just switch it from one sode to the other, and your inside lever will work. It's shown pretty good in the owner's manual.

Thanks to all.

Duh! I have a FSM but have been too damn lazy to look at it! Unfortunately, the owner's manual to mine is long gone...

Now, I have a mission for tonight when I get home from work.

I still can't open mine with either key. Only from the inside lever. Bought it used w/63k.

my key doesn't work either, it turns, but it won't pop the latch. good thing for the release inside the car

Out of these three:

'98 200SX SE
'97 200SX SE (parts car)
'95 200SX SE (car I still have for DET swap)

The friggin trunk key will not work.... only popping it will.

Every now and then the key works on the '98 (sister still has it)

Odd - I think nissan messed something up
