Hi all!

My car is having some bucking or hesitation at partial throttle. Most of this hesitation occurs when the car is cold. But I have experienced this sometimes when the car is hot and around 5000rpms. When is cold happens at 1500 to 2000rpms. You can barely feel this bucking or hesitation, but is there.

I have done EVERYTHING. From a complete tune-up, EGR cleaning, MAF re-ground and throttle body cleaning. My injectors are new also. The last thing I have to do is clean the MAF. I know the MAF sensor is EXTREMELY sensitive and I asume if the MAF is some what dirty I will have some hesitation and lost of power too. Because is not reading correctly the amount of air going into the intake.

I was reading on the SE-R list archives about this procedure but I need more information. I need information about what solvent is the best to do this job and how to do this job. OR what you recomend to solve this problem?

If someone here have done this I will appreciate if can explain me with details how to do it. Thanks in advance.

Did you ever change your O2 sensor? If you are gonna clean your MAF, make sure u remove the electronics first.

I have never heard of cleaning the MAF. I don't see how it would get dirty. Its upstream of all the oil residue from the valve cover. Maybe you meant cleaning the TB. I would never use any cleaners on the MAF. The sensor inside is very sensitive. Try replacing or cleaning your airfilter, and check your timing.

the wire can get oil from the K&N on it and give bad readings. use a q tip and rubbing alcohol gently.

If you are going to clean the actual MAF, some Fords had a problem with MAFs getting gunked up. Check their TSB's and find out what they used to clean the MAF.

I imagine most of the 4.6 Liter equipped Fords may have had this problem, as my girlfriend's mom's Merc Grand Marquis had this problem. Somehow, EGR was contaminating the MAF (probably a genius Ford design that put the EGR ahead of the MAF) causing major driveability problems. Cleaning the MAF was the cure and the TSB was release.
