: CAR STOLEN AND WRITTEN OFF.
WaNaB-raCR 01-31-2009, 09:08 AM Well i am tonight left with a wreck. Just got clutch sorted in primera today. Went to a mtes place tonight for drinks. When him and another mate came out i got out of the car leaving the keys in the ignition. Big mistake. I started talking to them and completely forgot about them. Walked into his house, had a few drinks, and fell asleep.
Was awoken by police at 1.30am saying that my car was in a million pieces. WHAT THE FUCK. They asked my current location, and by the time I got to the end of the driveway there was a police car waiting for me. They picked me up and took me to the crash site some 500m down the road, at this point they would tell me absolutey nothing. They pulled up next to my now wrecked p10. It had aparently gone over a traffic island, taken out a stop sign, then taken out a lamp post and come to rest on the side of the road. Aparently 6 teenagers then exited it and fled on foot.
Its absolutely fucked.
I had had a few drinks at my friends place (intending to leave in the morning), so I wasnt exactly in the best frame of mind. The cops then said, this is what happens when you get pissed and take your mates for a drive. WHAT???? YOURE PINNING THIS ON ME????
They then asked me what happened. I told them, then they said im neglegent for leaving th ekeys in the ignition and would likely be charged. Its also likely that because of the circumstances the insurance will not pay out.
FOR FUCKS SAKE, THERE GOES MY PROJECT CAR. I found my front right driveshaft snapped in half about 50m from the crash site, it was a fucking vioelnt crash. Im hoping like hell that someones inured or dying and will be picked up by police.........
IM FUCKED OFF!!!!!!!!!
bgreen 01-31-2009, 09:46 AM sorry to hear that..the g20's over on this coast are falling also....hope you find the culprit if u need help parting it out let me know what ya got
WaNaB-raCR 01-31-2009, 04:20 PM I live a bit too far away for you to help me part it out mate!
I'll take some pics of my p10 shortly and post them, as its sitting on my lawn at present.
Im absolutely guttered. You can see from the crash site that it was going at a high rate of speed (over 60MPH in a 30MPH zone) because of the distance the car traveled after initial impact and the damage caused.
The car front is quite literally sitting on the ground. Theres no driveshafts, the wheels are ripped out to the side, the front of the car is in an absolute mess. The engine doesnt look to bad from above, but the sump was likely ripped open as there was a large amount of oil on the road. The gearbox housing is split open.
Our cops are pathetic. They took me to the crash site, accused me, called the council to sweep the road of debris, (the car had come to rest off the road) and told me to call my insurance company and sort myself out a tow truck! They then said that they had another call and left. Well for fucks sake, there was 5 cop cars and at least 7 cops, surely they didnt all have to leave? I mean for gods sake my car was just stolen and written off and plently of people fled on foot surely they could pick someone up?
So I was left sitting on the side of the road, fairly drunk at the time, with my wrecked car waiting for a tow truck. Half an hour of waiting alone at 2 in the bloody morning.
What a shit night.
Got a phone call this morning to say my keys had been found in a ditch near the car. I was also told that since the keys were found they would be looking at me harder as they think its most likely that I was the culprit cause "crims just dont get keys" apparently.
Well come on, if it was me wouldnt I have taken my keys with me? My house key, my N14 sentra key, my motorbike key, and garage key (with several hundred dollars worth of tools inside) as well as other keys for padlocks etc, no bloody way I'd leave them on the side of the road.

nismoconvert 02-02-2009, 07:45 AM I'd kill if that shit happened to me. Sorry about your luck.
SuperblackZ 02-02-2009, 11:08 AM People steal cars w/o keys. People leave spare keys in their cars all the time, too. How many people leave a spare key somewhere in or on the car like a hideaway on the rear bumper? The cops are full of shit, keys or no keys, HTH can they hold you responsible for some ass stealing your car?
Get a lawyer or whatever they're called in NZ. Sorry to hear about your ride, don't let them make it worse for you.
chris101 02-02-2009, 12:28 PM WTF? how the hell can you get charged for leaving keys in the ignition? People had no business stealing it.. what difference does it make if you left keys in the ignition or not?
Hell, I'm guility of leaving keys in the ignition before myself in the driveway *but live in a safe enough area that a few hours didn't matter...
96SERTurbo 02-02-2009, 12:38 PM It is NOT a crime to leave your keys in the ignition, period! The cops can say and do whatever they like, and that's what they often do. No doubt if you were still a little drunk, they think you crashed it and ran home, especially since your keys were used. That doesn't make you guilty. They did not arrest you, so the odds that the prosecutor will go ahead with a warrant against you, as if you were the actual driver, are SLIM. KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT! DO NOT talk to the cops anymore. Anything you say can and will be used against you (Read: Anything you say will be twisted to fit their ridiculous synopsis). Leaving your keys in the ignition does not void insurance, etc. A stolen car is a stolen car, end of story. Claim it if you can ASAP. This is a good lesson for you; make sure you have your keys. And NEVER talk to the cops.
oozingmachismo2 02-03-2009, 05:42 PM ^ what he said. It looks to me like the car still be restored/salveaged. that truly sucks though. Another example of cops around the world being useless.
x3d187 02-03-2009, 06:24 PM It actually makes perfect sense for him to be charged(in a sense). He left his keys in the ignition, giving a doorway for someone to take the car a lot easier than it would be without correct? I look at it from the middle, it really sucks for him and I hope nothing is pinned on him, but on the other side someone has to pay for what ever damaged caused by the car. Read up on law or even call your insurance company and you'll see its perfectly fine. You leave the keys in your car you pay for the damages caused by your car in ANY case, because you LEFT them there. I'm sorry to see your car has ended up this way, hopefully they just let it go man.
Taurus45acp 02-03-2009, 06:46 PM i know shotguns are illegal where you are from, but you must find a way to kill the bastards. A spoon maybe.
Harris 02-03-2009, 09:04 PM Guys, you can't say it's illegal or legal for him to be charge for this. US laws aren't the same as Kiwi laws. He's subject to way different rules than you all, so don't speculate about the outcome of the situation he is facing.
WaNaB-raCR 02-04-2009, 03:26 AM It actually makes perfect sense for him to be charged(in a sense). ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!
POLICE LEAVE KEYS IN DUMMY CARS TO ENTICE CRIMINALS TO STEAL IT. IF THAT CRIMNAL HITS SOMETHING AND CAUSES DAMAGE TO ANOTHER VEHICLE IT IS THE CRIMINALS RESPONSOBILITY TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGE, NOT THE COPS. SO WHY THE FUCK SHOULD MY CASE BE ANY DIFFERENT.
It is NOT illegal to leave keys in the ignition and DOES NOT make perfect sense. AT ALL. A car stolen with keys or without keys is still a stolen car. Period. I dont want to start a shit storm here, and yes leaving my keys in the ignition was a mistake but you ARE NOT LEGALLY OBLIGATED to remove your keys however unwise it may be to leave them there.
However. There was fineprint in my insurance policy that stated that a car was not insured if the keys were left in the ignition. And because of this I am liable for damages also. This is the INSURANCES policy NOT the laws.
But it looks like I am now about five thousand dollars out of pocket, and left with no car. How fucking great.
WaNaB-raCR 02-04-2009, 03:30 AM Illegal? Hell no. I own several. Only firearms illegal here (on a normal licence) are anything under 762mm in length, anything fully auto, or anything which exceeds maximum magazine capacity (7 rounds for centrefire 15 rounds for rimfire)
Believe me. I would love to get a round or two into the fuckheads that have put me in this situation. But thats not exactly the best way do deal with this shit.
96SERTurbo 02-04-2009, 08:26 AM I didn't notice that he was not in the US, but still I can't help thinking he will not go down for this one... Sorry about your insurance.
