: Newbie: NX + SR20DET
JBL85 08-27-2002, 01:58 AM Ok, I am new here, but not new to this Forum stuff.
I decided I want to buy a cheap old NX and make it a nice track car. I want to drop in a SR20DET. I am not some stupid ricer who doesnt know much, but I only know about motor swaps in Hondas unfortunatley.
So if any of you guys know if I need to change motor mounts and the other good stuff let me know please. I want to get the motor JSPEC since obviously thats the only form of it, so this would mean it comes with fuel injector hopefully so I dont need to put 300zx ones on there or anything. Also I want the tranny that comes with it, so I obviously need the FWD motor/tranny deal.
Any tips and other info is highly appreciated.
Thanx

And I plan on getting a NX2000 not the NX1600, but if the 1600 is cheaper and the mounts are the same as the SR20DE, do you guys think its worth it?
Sr20 B12 08-27-2002, 02:44 AM hummmmm........... I think you better do a search......... Trust me, i'm being nice. On this forum Sr20 ignorance is not looked at nicely and shouldn't be (since almost all the info is at hand).

Sr20 B12 08-27-2002, 02:49 AM Oh and to answer your questions.
-The sr20det with tranni doesn't make a difference, because you can't use it anyway. There is no such thing as a FWD det only awd and rwd.
-You will not need to change your motor mounts if you have an sr20 powered car (all 91-98 ser's, all nx2k's and 97? - 02 sentra se's). so that should answer your NX1600 question.
-Mario (who doesn't flame on newbies............. this 1 time:) )
JBL85 08-27-2002, 02:59 AM Ahh common, my question wasnt to bad, I did a search, look at my second post, I found some answers.
I was reading somewhere there is a FWD SR20DET and a RWD one, is this false information?

It's false information. The fwd tranni works on the awd engine which confuses many to belive that the awd engine is fwd.

JBL85 08-27-2002, 03:55 AM So this means I am stuck using the OEM tranny which is gonan be a money pit since I wanna buy one with 150k on it.
In my experience swapping engine, tranny, ecu and harness was best done all at once.....
Ill see how this works out, I dont even know if I can get this car sponsored yet, I guess I will see what the guys say.
Pretty White 08-27-2002, 05:32 AM Try the Turbo Forum. All the answers are there.
I see you went to the se-r.net. Good choice.
If your tranny is not popping out of 5th gear I don't see why a 150K tranny is a problem. If this is gonna be a track whore it will not be cheap. But coming from Honda you will be used to that.
The DET is a direct swap. All but the RWD motor will work in a FWD car.
Welcome. The Nissan is a car that is the easiest car to make power out of. I wonder why sooo many people are leaving Honda after they baaashed Nissan sooooo much over the years. Hmmm.

I am gonna be 19 in december, Nissan is the only car I have ever driven, and probably will stay that way for awhile longer. I never drove hondas, all my friends do, so I know about what goes into those car, swaps and what not. I wanted a project car and i thought about a honda. Since those are overplayed, the only thing I could think of was to do a nissan swap since these are the best motors. Decided to go for the lightest one(NX) and a stout motor(SR20).
My friends motor builders are starting up a shop and need him to advertise, so these guys know nissan. I am waiting to see if they will sponsor me to so I can do this project. I am a full time student and dont work much so this is still a maybe.
Thanks for being cool and helpful guys.
Dr. Kwak 08-27-2002, 01:53 PM Despite looking small, the NX is not the lightest.
That hatch glass adds some weight, more so if you
get the common t-tops, and the bigger brakes and
rotors help the stopping but not the weight.
Here is what was involved for a swap in a 200SX
SE-R it'd be pretty close to the same for an NX.

Read up and ask questions. Good luck.
JBL85 08-27-2002, 02:02 PM Dr Kwak, for me it is the lightest, I was going to do a motor swap in my 86 300zx but it weighs 3600lbs. The NX weighs probably 1000lbs less than that. Thanx for the link I found it and its useful.
ride154 09-03-2002, 05:45 AM I'm gonna try this winter a det swap in a nx1600!
I got my eyes on a 1996 nissan avenir awd engine.
It can be placed on a primera gt and nx2000 gearbox,
too bad in europe those gearbox's dont have vlsd om 'em.
The det was and is only made as a awd and rwd engine.
check this guys at www.gonzonx.com
this man is grazy!!!
he bought a sr20VE and then turbocharged it!!!!
Maybe you'll can learn something from that!
AaroNX 09-03-2002, 01:17 PM Hey I believe that the classics are actually the lightest. Not by much though. Like you said mainly cause of the hatch and T-tops.
