: Headliner woes
xDennis 08-28-2002, 09:56 AM Well my headliner is about to start peeling. it is pretty embarassing although its not that bad yet. The very front of the liner under the sun visor is about 2inches off and same in the back. im pretty sure a large mjority of you have the same problem. I dont want it to start looking to bad and ghetto and i dont want to use tose retarded pins to keep it in place. What is a way to "profesionally" repair the headliner? or do i just need to get a new one, and how much do they cost?
Thanks
David SE-R 08-28-2002, 10:23 AM You can take it to an upholstery place and they can tear the old one and replace it with a new liner. I did that to my classic and I paid about $60. Looks great.
xDennis 08-28-2002, 10:25 AM Thanks man, thats what i was looking for....now off to find an upholstry place:rolleyes: ;) :D
David SE-R 08-28-2002, 03:04 PM COOL!!!!
Toolapcfan 08-28-2002, 03:51 PM $60? No way! That's a heck of a deal, it's easily twice that around here. I plan to just buy a new one from the $tealership for $176. $56 more than a redo, but hey, it's not some other guys grubby hands fiddling around in my car. Maybe I'll still look into the redo, they could put black in instead, then I could paint my A pillar covers to match as well as my dome light and sunroof switch trim. I don't understand why Nissan spent all the money to put a black interior in and then left the ceiling grey!
NismoSER 08-28-2002, 05:43 PM If anyone knows a good upholsterer in NJ, let me know! If i can get this done for 60 bucks, then why in the world would i spend 30 at Pep Boys when I can pay someone another 30 for my troubles.
Its311Pete 08-28-2002, 06:09 PM Dennis I got a guy up here in King to do mine for $120.
There has got to be some place in G-boro that can hook you up
David SE-R 08-29-2002, 10:11 AM $120???!!!! I called around before I did mine and the most expensive was $75 or $80.
Mike sr20de 08-29-2002, 10:51 AM you could always get that headliner spray glue, if the rest of it does not look bad. it's pretty cheap. $6 (guestimated)
xDennis 08-29-2002, 10:52 AM Derrick, 120! haha your killing me! i was expecting to pay around 60 or so...good ol inflated gboro area  maybee il find a shop in the boro that will do it for cheap if i say "all i got is 60 bucks and i need my headliner done baaad" haha that usually works.
classicred 08-29-2002, 04:51 PM couldnt you just take out the headliner, rip off all the old fabric, clean off headliner go to local fabric store get 3m general trim adhesive, pick the fabic you want, get 1/4 in foam ,cut the foam to same size as headliner, cut fabric 1in bigger all the way around headliner spray on adhesive to all pieces and pull the fabric around all edges and staple or glue? ive seen articles on how to do this in hot rod and lowrider and import magazines and i did this to my door panels in my old escort and worked great, and if your really skilled in trying new things you can get 1/4in rubber foam (might have to do some searching) cut a design such as nissan emblem glue it to the foam you put on the before you glue the fabric then glue fabric over that and voila you have a 3d effect. make sure to pull fabric nice and tight and make sure glue sticks. this should only cost 10-20 dollars sure better than paying 60-120
NismoSER 08-29-2002, 06:05 PM Classicred,
pep boys sells pre-cut headliner cutouts (nice and foamy too) in various colors for 30 bucks.
I *** don't know if i want to spend the few hours on it when for just another 30 bucks or so I can get it professionally done. but, that's just me. Its just a piece of cloth anyway.
Bowlcut 08-29-2002, 06:26 PM Eric redid his himself with the pepboys stuff. it looked pretty good, but you gota be damn good with the spray. cause not too long after it started coming down again. pretty easy to fix, just put a little more spray adheasive but oh well. Louis took his to an upholster and it looks DAMN good. 60 bucks and he had a hole new head liner. and he went with a more black grey color, painted the a pillers to match the rest of the plastic in the back and it looks damn good. darkened up the car a bit ***. whats funny, its the best looking thing on the whole car :)

skyliner 08-29-2002, 06:42 PM I repaired 3 Sentra headliners this way. Remove headliner from car, not that hard really..... helps if you remove one of the seats, makes it eaasier to get it out of the car. Remove the headliner material , this should leave some foam like substance on the headliner cardboard. Take a stiff brush to the foam and remove it down to the cardboard. Remove ALL of this foam or the new material will not stick well. Go to a Car audio shop and ask them for some trunk liner material , pick your color, I like to do mine in dark grey. The trunk liner material stretches alot , which makes it to get out wrinkles and such. The 3M glue is OK, I get some stuff local called 676, don't know who makes it but it's way better than the 3M glue. Anyways the only real hard part is the sliding portion of the sunroof that is if you have a sunroof. Aren't you close to Charlotte xTurbo Classicx? I'd be willing to help ya out if you like, just holler.

NismoSER 08-29-2002, 07:26 PM I did use the PepBoys stuff before, on NismoNx2000's old car, a Dodge Daytona. It held up for close to 2 years, then they got rid of the car.
I dunno, maybe i will just take the pep boys route again. after all, being a poor college guy, 30 bucks is 30 bucks.
BORNGEARHEAD 08-30-2002, 12:03 AM I highly recommend the factory headliner as a replacement. You cannot beat it and it won't disappoint you because it WILL look good when your done. I have replaced a few of these and found that if you put the driver seat all the way up and put the pass. seat all the way back you can get the headliner out of the pass. door.
