Well, what should be done? All fluids need to be filled, including the P/S, coolant, trans fluid, and oil. Should the motor be turned over a few times sans fuel pump fuse to bump the oil pressure up? All connections should be double checked, I'm sure, but is there something critical that could be easily goofed?

Other than that, is it just close you eyes, turn the key, and hope for the best?

Post start checklist-
Listen for funky noises
Look for massive oil leaks
set timing
check vaccum (what should it be at idle?)
go for an oh so gentle test spin
check for leaks
slowly drive the car harder and harder until everything is deemed hunky dory
hang on

Sound good?

Vacuum should be 20 in. at idle.
The motor should be turned over for about a minute to prime the turbo without the fuel pump.

Other than that, everything sounds good!

I put cheap motor oil in mine, unpluged the fuel pump fuse (well it was already) and crank the engine for 30 seconds. Also, as I had removed the turbo, I had to undo one of the oil line and crank the engine until drops of oil come out of the line. Then I plug it back into the block.

I ran the engine with fuel for about 5 minutes on idle. Change oil. Fill the engine with new oil (still cheap), ran it like that for 1000km. (Without going over 4000rpm). Then change for synthetic.

The vaccum should be 18-20 in-Hg
