Ok I searched and found a couple of threads with some conflicting results. So I figured I would just ask it here:

My motor has this annoying clicking/ticking sound whenever I drive/rev the motor..it sounds like if you took a stick and tapped it against a wood desk, it gets faster the more I rev the motor....it doesnt seem to affect the power at all and the car runs pretty well considering its got 199k on the motor (planning for VE-T, next year). I dont know what could be causing it, I checked my injectors and they have their own sounds, but I cant hear it from inside the car. I can hear the ticking inside my car and it annoys the crap out of me.
Any ideas? Ill take some video clips of it tomorrow.

valve tick, rod knock, piston slap, bad lifter..

could be alot of things

2 common SR noises around that milage is either the timing chain slapping the top guide, which can usualy be fixed by replacing the tensioner with a newer style one and or removing the top guide as it is not really needed..

or its because one or more of the rod bearings is worn allowing the rod to knock.. this either means you need a new engine, or if your lucky and your crank isnt damaged maybe just some new bearings, if u replace 1 replace them all... if your cranks toast u can either get a replacement or have it fixed..

those are the 2 most comming sounds you will start hearing around that many miles... Good luck, let us know what you find

screw it, im just going to buy a VE off ebay for a grand and dump it in...199k is too many miles to have to deal with, would end up replacing all my motors components. Im just going to drive it until it blows. Thanks for the input. :D

Did you do the swap in ur garage with just an engine hoist? Only thing im worried about when I do it, is pulling the freakin axles out.

I will definitely be calling you when the time comes ;D

edit: just went through and decided I am going to go all out on this motor(ve), I am going to put in a few extra hours of overtime so I can get the VE without biting into my normal pay...but I have been pricing out parts, I am going to build this motor like a tiger tank. I am thinking of just using an OE crank and just have it knifed, also OE bearings, Eagle rods, CP pistons w/ .020" overbore; coated skirts/faces everything is going to be strong, lightweight, balanced, EXPENSIVE. All this getting stuffed in after I have the block honed, hot tanked, blue printed.

As far as the head goes Cometic hg, Not sure what kind of studs I should use..heard bad things about ARP, lookin at N1 cams, BC dual springs/Ti retainers, ported/polished, port matched, flowed. Planning on a 9.0:1 cr, I want BOOST....but that is another project. Dunno what kind of EM, probably just a calum ecu since I could have a new chip burned for boost later on. This is going to be an on going project, so once I get this motor in the mail (probably in a month or so) Ill start snapping photos of my money flying away :D Any constructive input would be awesome :D
