: Exhaust help.
walka 03-07-2009, 01:51 PM I have a 99 nissan sentra SE and I need a whole new exhaust system including a Catalytic converter. I'm looking for a performace exhaust system that is legal to drive and that fits on without messing around with it. If anyone knows a good site I can buy one off that fits those standards that would be a great help. Thanks!

just get one custom bent, that what I did for my SE-R...its quiet (i can hold a conversation at normal speaking lvls in the cabin at highway speeds) and sounds great during spirited driving. Cost me about $500 for everything including parts (SSAC,Magnaflo 27", ebay twin loop, 15 ft of 2.5 pipe)and labor...

so you brought the parts and then had them installed. If so thats what I was going to have a mechainc do. Or the vrs exhaust I was looking at getting but i don't want one that is too loud and i don't know how the vrs exhaust sounds? Plus does the vrs exhaust replace the cat or does it hook up to it? I don't want to order parts and not beable to return them so help would be good. Thanks

Yea I just ebayed like 70% of the parts and gave them to Tony and said do it. I dont know about the VRS exhaust, I just go straight custom because it sounds better than any name brand exhaust ive ever heard. I can actually listen to my radio and not get a headache during long drives:D
walka 03-11-2009, 04:34 PM so like what parts did you ebay? like the pipes and stuff? sorry i'm not that good with parts xD. Oh and how do you think pacesetter header would work?

Any header will work, but personally i wouldnt take a crap down a pacesetter anything...they are crap for the most part. I bought an SSAC clone header off ebay and its build quality is very good and does what its supposed to.

The pipes i purchased off ebay in 3x 5' sections. Tony has a mandrel bender at his shop so he pulled off some slick looking curves. Just find a good fabricator if you arent going to do the bending/welding urself.
that is my exhaust system, that twin loop I had Tony chop off the ugly tip and put a 45* 2.5" downturn on.
walka 03-11-2009, 06:21 PM ok thanks!
walka 03-16-2009, 12:01 AM If I just get a ssac header and bolt it to a new stock exhaust will I get any improvment in power? Or should I go for a ssac header and upgraded exhaust. The only reason I don't want a upgraded exhaust is because the cops around my area go for those cars with the loud exhaust. Oh and If I get a ssac header is there any thing I should look out for like cracks in the welding after sometime of driving it? I've heard that sometimes performace headers can crack.
TommyD241 03-16-2009, 07:08 PM You will notice an improvement with just a SSAC header and the stock exhaust. I had just a SSAC header on my car for a while with nothing else and there was definitely a performance gain.
walka 03-16-2009, 09:07 PM Does anyone know if theres a sensor on the cat that if it goes off will make your service engine soon light come on? Because mine came on!!! and I checked the oil the tranny oil and the idle is fine. I figure it has to be something with the exhaust because my exhaust it really shot.
TommyD241 03-16-2009, 09:38 PM Yeah there is an oxygen sensor on the cat. Go to autozone and have them pull the codes with code reader. That way you know what code(s) your dealing with.
walka 03-16-2009, 10:27 PM Oh thats what I thought. Yeah I'm going to have a friend who was a code reader find out the codes for me.

Taurus45acp 03-21-2009, 09:59 PM that vivid is only 2.25"....my exhaust sounds completely stock until i get on the gas..then it has a nice deep roar....just do that.
walka 03-25-2009, 05:37 PM So I took my car into the small mechanic that I knew and he fixed my check engine light the flex pipe that was connected to the header pipe. Was completely rusted out a huge hole to much air going into the system, so he put another one on. But the only thing that pissed me off was he welded the parts together not bolted them together. And the pipe he welded it to will need replacing in a year as well as my hole exhaust my cat is ok but pretty rustly. Also I asked him if he could put performace parts on my car and he said no because he thinks doing things to these cars is pointless because there not fast. That upset me alittle bit, but I didn't say anything I just left. Granted he did fix what needed to be fixed. And everything is fine. I'm still a newbie with my car and in college so its hard to find time to learn how to do things your self but i'm going to try to learn. Unless anyone knows a mechanic around milwaukee WI that will help me in installing the parts I want.

wtf! i would have told that mechanic to just do the job i paid him for and keep his god damn opinions to himself. Next time before you go to a shop get a referral or opinion about the place. Try to find a reputable shop, you might pay a little more but its worth it. The shop I go to (Ken Fisher Repair in corvallis,or) i could have gotten the job done cheaper but Tony is such a nice guy and knows exactly what he is doing, i will continue to use that shop when I need things beyond my own capabilities done.
walka 03-25-2009, 06:12 PM Yeah I should have but he just seems like a guy not to mess with. My gf Recommended him because hes been doing work on her honda civic for about a year an a half now and its still running. But yeah thats probably the last time i'll go to him.

if you fear your mechanic, then they shouldnt be your mechanic. Make sure he didnt take any change out of your ashtray.
