: Tinted taillights
NismoSER 08-29-2002, 01:50 AM here's a shot of my tinted taillights. I used VHT spray from Summit Racing which I got for 10.95.

Whaddaya think? No going back though, unless I buy new taillights :p
Looks pretty good. Did you masked out the reverse-light area when you were spraying? Also, can you post a few more pictures for a closer look? Thanks.
NismoSER 08-29-2002, 08:29 AM Yep, i used painter's masking tape, newpaper, and a Kershaw. I managed to not overspray anything, and made a perfect outline of the reverse light :)
I'll take better pics later this weekend.
Fonque 08-29-2002, 04:00 PM that would look damn sweet on my nx,
im going nightrider styles black everything including rims, clear lenses all way round and if i painted the yellow turn signals in the back that way...dayum!!
has anyone had any trouble with the paint peeling??
Black95SE-R 08-29-2002, 04:53 PM And how do the lights look when they're on?
I painted my side-markers with tinted clear-coat and there is no issue on peeling. You just have to prep the plastic properly before you shoot the paint.
NismoSER 08-29-2002, 06:17 PM as soon as the light is lit, it looks normal, like there is no tint at all. when i go home, i'll take closer pics, with the lights on, off, etc etc. I haven't heard of anyone having problems with the paint peeling.
Fonque 08-29-2002, 08:54 PM id deffinately like to see those pics
mpg9999 08-30-2002, 03:07 PM Is it legal?
NismoSER 08-30-2002, 04:50 PM It probably varies by district/town/state. The cops around me havnen't given me problems, since when it lights up it looks like its not tinted.
In fact, its really much darker than my mom's VW GTI, which have tinted tails stock.
NismoNx2000 08-30-2002, 05:00 PM I tinted my tail lights with the same spray tint on my nx and i will be taking pics as soon as possible. I think it looks extremely good. To the point where i dont know how i lived without them tinted. Trust me, hook up the stuff. Its called vht nightshades spray tint and put on 3 even coats without overlapping, and you will be good to go.
NismoSER 09-03-2002, 03:40 PM As promised, here are the pics.

Fonque 09-03-2002, 08:13 PM damn those look extremely good!!
got any tips on prepping to get good results like that??
NismoSER 09-03-2002, 09:00 PM I just cleaned them off really well, and made sure that consequently, they were also dry after washing them.
On other people's cars who have doen this, i.e. Roll-Mod-L, NismoNx2000, they got the final finish to be as shiny as the regular plastic was. This was not the case for me...I guess i just suck at painting. I don't want to put more coats on because its dark enough as it is, so I'm going to try clearcoat.
