Is it a squeal or more like a squeak? Does it do it when the car is off as well as when it's running? My XE clutch pedal used to squeak a little, but I could tell it was coming from the pedal and not the clutch itself. If it only does it when the car is running, then I'd guess your clutch might be slipping and you're hearing that. Although, my clutch in the SE-R slips, but it doesn't make any noise. If it does it when the car is off, then I suppose it could be your cable or it could be the throw out bearing sliding, but I'd think your clutch would have to be awefull tough to depress if the bearing were the culprit.

Mine was doing this when i had my stock clutch in there with a new cable. Keep in mind my clutch was mad heavy. Ive changed my clutch and the sound is gone and its a smooth transition with the clutch pedal. It usually only squealed when it was hot or humid outside. On cooler days and nights it didnt do it. You might want to try spraying the cable with wd-40 or something to that affect. It might help, but it will come back after a while. I wouldnt worry about your cable snapping though. To be on the safe side of course, you might want to buy a new cable.
