: My first time at the track w/ DET!
AntonioG 08-29-2002, 01:28 PM So I hit up Sacramento Raceway's Ricer Infested Wednesday Night Drags last night. Two time trials and then bracket racing...
1st run vs some really slow car (forgot what it was)
RT - .848 (hey, it's been over a year)
60' - 2.386 (bleh)
1/8 - 9.222 @ 80.508
1/4 - 14.098 @ 101.662
* Smoked the other guy's blazing 17.947 @ 76.528
2nd run vs Accord
RT - .709
60' - 2.439 (hmmm...damn, why do I keep on spinning???)
1/8 - 10.196 (still spinning, what the hell is that smell?!?!)
MPH - 77.196
1/4 - 15.211 @ 98.728
* Smoked the Accord and smoked my clutch big time. That smell almost made me sick.
3rd run (1st bracket race) vs a stock white classic driven by a nice guy I haven't met before - this part of the night was my favorite, I didn't have any shoe polish to put up a dial-in ET, so I was asked by the track operator before I staged. I casually said 13.9 and put my helmet on. The look on his face and all the people around him while he wrote 13.9 on my windows was HILARIOUS!
RT - .928 (this is where I lost the race, ugh)
60' - 2.371 (clutch feels ok, please don't slip I'm praying...)
1/8 - 9.215 @ 80.743
1/4 - 14.072 @ 101.039 Sweet! Improved ET and clutch felt ok, but I had to go to the loser lane, doh!
4th run - my favorite, against a Camaro SS
RT - .470 (oops, a little anxious)
60' - 2.347 damn!
1/8 - 9.124 @ 81.348
1/4 - 13.979 @ 101.941 SWEET! Into the 13s!
The SS ran a 13.597 @ 101.026, he was just barely ahead of me at the end of the track. I wonder what went through his mind with this little black Sentra nipping at his heels and actually pulling on him at the end of the run!
Overall, I'm pleased - especially considering I ran full interior with a bunch of crap in my car including tools, spare, jack, etc. AC still intact and I still have my messed up front end from the flying metal incident, hehehe.
For those that don't know - mods are BB DET at stock boost (reads slightly under 7 psi on my boost gauge), 3" exhaust with cat, 2.5" dented downpipe, FMIC, street tires were Dunlop SP8000s set at 23psi.
I did manage to smoke Irwin just about every run except for that clutch-frying one, but I didn't manage to beat his best of 13.8 that he ran last week! Both him and I need new clutches though, hehehe. Everyone else that showed up ran decently, but I have to feel bad for a good friend of mine that keeps on having the worst luck... anyone got a spare tranny for cheap?

Smoke???? :o I didn't do to bad for someone that didn't have 1 full gear the whole night...( Clutch slipped horribly on every run ):D I do have a bigger turbo, running more boost (9psi which is stock on my turbo), we shall see who SMOKES who once we both have real clutches..Oh yeah in my book 2 tenths doesn't constitute SMOKING someone my son. 14.1 at 103 was my best last night..( Slipping through all my gears ). We shall have a rematch...:D

A little help here cause I'm not feeling it.
I have a newly installed DET too.
How the hell are you guys launching.
Where am I losing it. Cause when I went the best I could pull off is a 14.7
Any help please!!!
SERprise In WV 08-30-2002, 07:53 AM Good job, Antonio! You and Irwin should go halfsies on a set of steelies and slicks. THEN you can really wipe the smiles off the track boyz. :D

my first run was a 15.2 *** hte det swap. i launch at 3000 on street tires at 16psi (in the tires) on stock boost(6.5) and my best was a 14.2. its all in practice, not just totally dumping the clutch and watching them spin.

Hmmm...how new? Have you done all the tuning stuff yet? Like setting TPS, idle, timing, etc?
How about your plugs? Are you misfiring at all? What type and where are they gapped at?
When I launch, I brought the rpms to about 3-3.5k and sort of slipped/dumped the clutch, I sort of spun through first, but not too bad. You want a little spinning on street tires, but you don't want to turn them to smoke. It'll look cool, but your ET will suffer.
Post your timeslip...then we can figure where you are losing time, and see if you're making the power you should be.
And as for you Irwin...face it like a man! I was quicker Wednesday. Not faster, but quicker. But, you did win the highway encounter. Doh! ;) Found some slicks, wanna split 'em?
92SE-R 08-30-2002, 10:15 PM September 11th I am returning. Whoa, that's 9/11. Never realized that. Anyone want to throw it down? 12's here we come! Antonio, how did you run a Camaro SS?
Returning to Sacramento? Hm.. Antonio got to battle the Camaro in the fun run lane. I think my Norcal brethren can handle a San Diegan upstart :D Maybe if they had real clutches by then..

So you have had the Xtreme PP for 256,000miles on your car? You are fibbing big time. This has nothing to do with being in NorCal vs. SoCal. I know of many people who used that PP and blew their trannys. I blew two trannys using that PP. Steve Rockwood had the same experience. I am on my thrid tranny but I switched to JWT PP and all is fine. and I am using a 98 tranny with an open diff. And I race my car once a month on a road course. It takes a hell of a beating. When you blow your tranny send me 1K please.

Yeah, I'm leaning to the 6 puck ACT using the JWT PP...I gotta do some more research and see if it will work! I'm pretty sure it will though.

Bah! Chill fools...
First of all, you were under racing conditions. Jorge doesn't really drive that hard - want proof? Ask for his latest timeslips... ;)
Second of all, tranny explosions are probably first and foremost a function of driver style/error. I know of people that broke their tranny using a stock PP. So does that mean all stock PPs are bad? Of course not. 2-3 localized data points a trend does not make. :) We drive modified cars and Nissan designed the tranny to handle 140hp/132 lb-ft of torque with a weak safety factor. Of course shit will break when the power is upped significantly or you're driving really abusive.
SuperblkStalion 08-31-2002, 02:51 PM i see where i had made the mistake, i have not had it on for 256,000 miles. but my point is that if you know how to drive your car it will not break! thank you antonio for your input

Soopastank 08-31-2002, 03:35 PM Were you still faded when you wrote that Jorge? :D
Actually if I recall correctly you just have the Heavy Duty PP Jorge.. the same one I have. And yes the Extreme PP does break a shitload of trannies.. thats why I didnt have you get one :)
But either way.. Naji sucks :D (j/k)
