Alright fellas I need some help on this issue.

My VVL is acting up and its starting to piss me off. Whenever the weather is -5 and below my VVL cuts in and out at high rpm. Sometimes when I set it at a rpm switch point it will go past it and won't engage until a couple of rpm's later(like 300-500rpms). Now when I do reach high rpm(6000 and above)the VVL will cut in and out. What the heck!?!?!?

Now I have checked my MAF and that's fine. Gapped my plugs properly. Traced my MSD 8969 wiring and everything seems fine and clean. I don't think I have low oil pressure but going to be installing a gauge soon. But remember....everything is fine with warmer weather.

Could it be a air temp sensor? Suggestions and comments welcome

Thanks,
-Ryan-

I'm guessing oil pressure. The oil my be too thick at those temps, causing low pressure at the solenoids.

Yeah that could be it. Oil gets to thick. I remember i was using to thick an oil in my VE and it would not go on LIFT properly. Lighter oil everything was fine.

5 w 30.... is the weight you should use.. synthetic preferrably.

check your connector plugs to the vvl sometimes oil will get up in there (which suggests a leak at the solenoid) and not make a good electrical connection. every so often i clean my connections. i need new solenoids eventually.

anyone know how to get them?

Well I have been putting in Mobil 1 5W30 since the engine install more then 2 years ago. I think it has something to do with the cold temps because the warmer it is the more "normal" the car acts

it could be an oil issue if it was thick, when the car gets warm it should go away or it could be that in the cold u lossing oil psi not sure why that would happen, i going to go with an electrical issue, i say test everything, at the cold temps, from solenoids, and recheck the wire, also connections if its not that i say start testing oil system. and if cant find it, when its cold dont rev past 6k
