Where I live they only test for CO and HC emissions. There is no test for NOX and no visual test. With a 11:1 comp SR20DE and S3 cams I was able to pass my last test on the second try but only after manipulating my cam timing (I adjusted the JWT cam gears to produce less overlap).
I'm pretty confident an SR20VE with either set of the stock cams (SR20VE or SR16VE) would pass. I believe the limits are 1.2% CO and 220 ppm HC. What do y'all think?

Just deactivate the second cams. I bet it would but no guarantee. A sr20ve acts very similiar to a sr20de with the cams not engaged. Do a search for the specs of the sr20ve cam profiles and compare them to a de. The profiles are in one of the threads in the VE section.

Thanks. I bet I wouldn't even have to do that considering the car is tested at idle and 2500 rpms.... nowhere close to the cam switchover point.

Well the Name NEO VVL tells you all...
It stand for Nature Oriented... something that starts with e, think its engine dont remember. But its just like Vtec which was made for the sake of the environment... Acts like a regular engine when driven normally, but when driven hard drives like a higher displacement car.

off topic but related
so is that NEO sticker on the Valve cover just that, a sticker? or is it branded on the cover?
personally i would want to take it off. keep as much people as i can on a "need to know" basis. frankly no one needs to know. that way i can surprise their pants off hee hee.
Plus i'd love to keep them even more baffled when they don't even know this type of engine even exhists.

It's just a sticker. Pay $2500 for an engine that looks excatly like a sr20de (with the exception of two little selinoids on the side by the cam) and then see how you feel about taking the plaque that tells everyone what makes your car different off. My car gets no attention until I want it to. Jims car at Carlisle had very little traffic around it and his car is really nice. Some guy with a beat up classic and a FMIC on a stock DET has people going "cool" and stuff. Whatever.

So you want the sr16ve with the tag removed for spectator drags. Better get the sr20ve.

My car is the perfect example of what you want. I took off the NeoVVL sticker and had the valve cover powder coated silver to match the factory cover.
