Alright guys, I've gotta an 87 200SX XE with the ca20e engine in it. It's RWD and 5 speed. It's a decent car as is, but I'd like to give it some of that sr20 flavor and i can get an sr20de from a g20 with no tranny in good condition for next to nothin. How difficult would this be? Would i need a jdm RWD tranny? I know the jdm sr20det swap would be easier, but this motor is too good to pass up. I'm lookin to keep it under 200 hp. ANY info would be helpful. I've got nothin.
Thanks,
Josh

I am not too engine swap savy but I think the price of a new RWD SR20de from a NA silvia Q's would be cheaper than trying to convert a FWD USDM sr20de to RWD. because doesnt the RWD sr20 have a different exaust manifold, I dont know if it has a different intake manifold, but plus all the intake plumbing, all the coolant lines, AC, power steering would all be different, and not to mention the obvious transmission difference, and any other differences that I dont know about (I am sure there is more). And I know you could find a RWD JDM SR20de for cheaper than a sr20det. And the price of buying all the extra parts seperately would most likely out way the good price of the USDM FWD Sr20de. but I like the idea of your swap, I always wanted to get one of those hatchback 200sx turbo's to fix up an show them hachi rokus whats up. Good luck

I say look for the V6 version that came in that car. I'm don't remember if it was called a VG30 or not. Since it's RWD stick with an engine from a RWD.

Get a VG30E from a maxima or Z31. You get more power/torque and its parts are cheaper and more available.

I'd say grab a cheap redtop RWD DET and tranny and make it fit. Shouldn't be that hard. No harder than a FWD DET in a B12 or something. (Is that hard? )

Yes, it's hard if your doing it for the first time (or just don't know what your doing). I just finished help putting a GTi-R det into my father's B12 a few weeks ago. It only took 25 total hours (from begining to engine start) but when he did the sr20 swap back in 94, it took about 2 weeks!! I'll have pics of the new B12 up when it's totally completed and painted.

Thanks for the info guys. Any one have any idea if the tranny from a CA20E would be close to bolt on? If any body has got anything else, just put it up. :) Bye the way, just got the 95 240SX seats put in. Soooo much more comfy. Thanks again.
