Looking for feedback on what to spring rate to run on a time attack/road racing GTIR?
Was thinking 10 KG Front and 9 Rear (to dial out some of the understeer).
Any thoughts?
Any experience/opinions?
Thanks

Most people run a softer spring rate like 5 and 4 KG.. do a search on the GTIROC. There some handling threads on there.

Ya. There are not any decisive responses to spring rates on there but I started a thread with the same questions.

Here is some interesting info...because the GTIR is essentially the same weight as the S13/S14 we can gauge some info on racing spring rates by what they are running.
Here is a good link: http://www.badlose.com/tech/springrates.html
More racing info: http://nissanroadracing.com/vbulletin/search.php?searchid=45696
KSport list their rate for the GTIR at: Front 7.5kg/420lb & Rear 5kg/280lb
and the rate for the S13: Front 7kg/392lb & Rear 6kg/336lb
7.5 in the front of the GTIR for the front driveline components. 5 in the rear for understeer bias and lighter rear of car...I think. Essentially equating the S13 reference from badlose to the GTIR then I think my 10Front and 9 Rear should work...maybe 8 rear?
Think I am answering my own questions again...

May I recommend 10k / 8k ?
The current setup I use (5/4) is predictable and incredibly competitive on a road course. Wouldn't x2 will give you the same bias, me thinks so...
Your best answer if you are serious about this: buy 2-3 sets of different springs and swap them around until your face becomes heavenly smiling while leaving skid marks in your shorts ;)

Hey McDave...how are you doing?
I was actually going to ask you what you thought and get some feeback on the BC/Apex coils. How are they holding up and what is you comments on build quality.
I am considering running them but not sure yet. Thoughts?
I have had some feedback from the UK forums:http://www.gtiroc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=384017&posted=1#post384017
Also need to talk to you about surge tanks and oil coolers.
Cheers

I really appreciate the BC/Apex kit with the 5/4 springs. The new bottom should hold the extra load this year, but all in all, great kit for the price.
However, I can't comment on the performance of any higher rate, not sure how the valving would perform. IMO if you are looking into a race type of setup, opt of the Tein HA or JIC coilovers.
Oil coolers: mocal with a thermostatic sandwich plate.
Surge tank: I have this one from RHD Japan...with a 2nd Walbro pump.

So I went with a 9KG front and an 8KG rear...we will see...should be firm!
McDave, or anyone, do you remember the size of our oil filters (need to know which thermostatic adapter works)?
3/4"-16?
20mm?
I can't remember but I think its the smaller one.

3/4"-16?
Get the K&N HP1002.
For the oil cooler, plate, lines and fittings, contact Peter (peter@batinc.net) from BATINC (http://www.batinc.net/main.htm).
MOCAL is the sh*t, don't settle for the generic take off plate or any other parts (I did for 1 item and I wish I didn't...)

I've been using K&N HP-1003 for my car since I own it. You sure about 1002 Dave?
And it's 3/4"-16

That's what I have.... it's more "truck-size" kinda filter ;)
Either one will fit. Filter size differs slightly.

Anything more than a 6kg front and a 4kg rear will be to hard for the road..

I don't want to drive it on the road...
