: Oil temp gauge as water temp gauge?

Here is what might possibly be the crazy question of the day! :)

Can an electronic oil tempreature gauge be used as a water tempreature gauge? I figure as far as the sensor is concerned a thermal reading is a thermal reading.

Someone is going to ask why. The gauges I want to run are only available in in boost, oil pressure, and oil temp right now. The manufacturer does not see a demand for a water temp gauge so they will not be making one. However, I want to have a better viewon what my coolant temps are like rather then what the dummy gauge give me.

you wont get the same resolution out of an oil temp gauge as you would with a dedicated water temp gauge, simply for the reason that the range of temps for oil are way higher than with water. Easier and safer to just get a water gauge.

That's what I was concerned about!
