how much free play is there on the clutch? when i drive, sometimes i am lazy and like to rest my left foot on the clutch pedal (very very very light pressure only), it only depresses it maybe like 1 cm or so. i assume there is some free play built into this, thus i am not causing any harm, am i okay to do this, or will it just wear out my clutch faster and i should stop doing this?

thanks

There is some freeplay in a properly adjusted clutch pedal, but when you rest your foot on it, you use this freeplay and it causes the Throwout bearing to be lightly pressed against the pressure plate. This isn't terrible, but the PP is spinning, so instead of your TOB only being used when changing gears, it is spinning all the time now. It could concievably lead to premature throwout bearing failure, since it is being used probably 20-30 times as much as it would normally.

I would also venture to guess that you are pressing it down more than 1cm too. Think about it; in order for you to gain any benefit out of resting your foot on the pedal, you'd have to push it down more than 1cm. Otherwise it would be more work to keep your foot in that spot for an extended period of time.

My suggestion---use the dead pedal to the left of the clutch pedal;)

My ACT has such a short interaction point. It's like the last 30% of the pedal where it releases. I don't know if there is anything wrong, but it has worked fine for a month.
