: parallel link bushings frozen
det-ser92 04-18-2009, 10:14 AM Hey i'm doing my drum to disc swap. It would be easy if the long bolt for the parallel links wasn't froze up in the bushings. I got one side out and done. One bushing stayed on the bolt and came out when I beat on the bolt.
Now the other side is bein a lot worse. penetrating oil, pullers, hammers, chisels, punches, pressing it with a bolt; the only thing I aint got is some heat to put on it. Anyone else have this problem?
I've got the links chained up to the rear tow hook so I can hit the bolt without the link moving. The bolt is destroyed, but nissan has more bolts. I just gotta get this out. I can't ride around on one drum and 3 discs... The car I'm pulling the discs off of is going so smooth. no problems. I may just have to drop the tank and get the upper portion of the links off... Maybe??
I'm just trying to get different ideas on what to do. In case I may have skipped something simple.

yeah, I just borrowed my buddies mapp gas thing. haven't tried it yet. I been putting it off. thanks
eric96ser 04-21-2009, 03:40 PM I had the same issue when I put my ES bushings in. I had to cut the center of the bolt a little, turn the bolt and keep doing that until I was all the way through it. I got lucky and found a set of arms at pull a part that were not rusted in place when I went back to stock bushings. When you get things apart, put anti-seize on the bolts to keep that from happening again.
Oh yeah, I removed the arms from the car to make things easier. I had to order a new bolt from the dealer. I want to say it was $7.
det-ser92 04-21-2009, 04:05 PM I hope I dont have to cut it. I already know I have to get a new bolt, I shroomed out the end trying to beat it out. But I have another bolt in my parts car.
I'm gonna try the mapp gas tonight and if that dosen't work, I'll have to cut it like you said. but the bolt dosen't rotate at all. I tried a 2 ft ratchet and 1/2" impact to turn it, nothin.
I'm afraid of removing the links from the car though. I don't wanna run into the same problem on the top side of the links.
eric96ser 04-21-2009, 04:54 PM Those bolts don't get the same abuse like the lower ones do. Once you have the arms out then you can move them around.
det-ser92 04-21-2009, 05:12 PM did you have to drop the tank to get the arms off? looks like the bolts will hit the tank...

eric96ser 04-21-2009, 05:39 PM No, there are 2 bolts on each side that are small. I think the one toward the front of the car has to come out first, or there is not enough room for the rear one. You also have to put the rear one in first.

yeah, now I'm stuck workin on a Honda, and haven't been able to actually FINISH my job. So I still gotta press the bushings in the passenger side and button it all up. there's so much I gotta do to this car though... Straighten the core support, finish the tranny swap, clean and install the interior, put some tunes in it, swap windshields, oil change, leak fix, alignment, unspokens...:(
Its sucks not being able to clone myself so I'd have some help
