Ok, I love the sr20de, and the price of $275 is unbeatable at watanabe's. I'm a newbie, and uneducated about these swaps, but at that price, and with the potential of the sr20de, will it swap 'fairly' easily into a Honda/Acura?

I love Nissan's too, just would like to see if it's feasible, and cost effective?

Anyone have experience with cross-breeding ;) I've seen Corvette engines in 2nd gen RX7's, and Mustang 5.0's in Miata's, so I'm curious if this would work.

Thanks...be gentle ;)

WHY?!

BlairEllis,

I'm really into project cars as I go through my mid-life crisis. Over the last 2 years, I've been able to purchase and sell the following, thus crossing them off my 'want' list -

90 Nissan Maxima SE (5 speed)
91 Acura Legend
91 VW Passat
90 VW Corrado G60 (supercharged)
91 VW Corrado G60 (current with auto to 5 speed conversion)
93 Mazda Miata (fully modded)
91 Nisssan Sentra SE-R (watanabe jdm engine installed Thursday)

I plan to get a 95 240 sx and have jgy drop a sr20det into it, plus possibly another project car for winter. There's just a number of cars that I've always wanted to own, and dropping a sr20 into them would probably make them that much better...plus it may be cheaper.

Cars on my 'wish list' include (not necessarily in any order) - 95 Nissan 240sx, Infinity G20, 94-98 VW Jetta, 1st gen MR2, 2nd Gen MR2, 92-95 Civic HB, Honda CRX, Honda Del-Sol, anther Miata. In the next 5-7 years, my goal is to fix up a car, enjoy it, then move on. I'd like to have 3-5 cars when all is said and done, with the keepers probably being the Jetta, 240, Miata, 1st gen MR2, and Civic HB. I'd love to drop sr20's or det's in all of them. :)

PS - call me crazy, but that's my list...mid-life crisis I tell ya, but at least I'm not desiring a $70K Porsche :D

I think that's an awesome idea!

What's wrong with stuffing a great engine like the SR20 in a lightweight, good-looking chassis which has superior suspension design and more aftermarket support than you can shake a stick at?

I think it'd be the best of both worlds!

Boy Mike, you don't waste time and you throw yourself at the mercy of the court! ;) You think you like the SR20 now, but you've got the various turbo applications and the SR20VE yet to discover, then you'll REALLY be in trouble! How was MidAmerica on saturday? Got your message, but was too late at the time. (How'd you like my Sling Blade greeting? I don't think most people understand, and just think I'm demented!) We'll have to go down to that wednesday night deal at Cinema Center was it? one of these days, and go down to MidAmerica. I'll get a helmet and put a clutch in the SE-R so I can do a few runs. Better focus on getting the truck done though. I can't wait to mod the SE-R though, tempetd to push the truck out the garage and put a for sale sign on it. I've got to be patient though, I've got way too much into it to stop now. How's that flex pipe deal going? Who'd you say put that engine in for you in Elkhorn? Shoulda PM'd or e-mailed you all this stuff. Sorry. :)

Isn't the point of a project car to do the work yourself? Atleast that's the way I think of them.

I'm kinda liking the smallness of the old crx's.....

well since the trans is on the other side that's one obstacle. you'll need a full ECU/wiring to run it. custom driveshafts. or housing for trans to engine depending on the way you approach it. the different types of suspension systems may play an obstacle.

btw: crx's are just ugly. and i got a D16 motor out of an 89 integra with trans/ecu/wiring still have the whole car actually. if anyone wants it. newer trans..motor needs torn down probably. still runs good ***.

If I were doing a SR into a civic, well, it'd probably be easiest to use the SR tranny. Then you'd probably need some custom half shafts and weld up some motor mount points. And then custom hoses for the radiator and such. A/C would be tough to hook up.

I've thought about doing a 92-95 civic hatchback.... whether turbo or NA, I'd start with the B20 block. If NA, I'd go high compression (12-13.0:1), B16 vtec head with the JDM cams. You can get over 200whp with that setup. Add in a port and polish, valve job and you're looking at around 220-240 whp.

Going turbo, I'd do the same except low compression and a big blow dryer of course!

i think that would be dope if you stuffed a SR20 into a honda. Dont even bother with a JDM or USDM SR20DE though, there are so many other honda engines that have higher horsepower out of the box. I suggest something more exotic that honda doesnt have such as the 54c SR20DET(GTI-R) or a SR20VE. As for the chassis, im thinking that you want a honda for their light weight chassis. I suggest the 88-91 ef series CRX HX model or the 92 eg series Civic VX hatchback models. Those two are the lightest of the models in their respective model years and the 92 VX model has an aerodynamic underpan to cut resistance. The CRX HF can easily be brought down to around 1700 pounds and the Civic VX to 1800 pounds without any cutting. Are you gonna get custom axles made? If you get the CRX HF, you should also get a SI model hub assembly because the axles are a lot bigger and the hub is stronger. Also, the 88 CRX/Civic has a more primative style rear suspension than the 89-91 in the same model year, try getting the 89-91. If you know how to do the custom fabrication work yourself, look forward to a looong winter! Shops might charge an arm and a leg as everything is custom. If you have any other questions about the Civic/CRX or other stuff, just PM me and ill be glad to help.

Thanks for all the support everyone! I appreciate it :) Toolapcfan, yeah, sorry I missed you too, give me a call anytime if you want to go to either event. It was nice meeting you...the slingblade thing....it's different, but that's cool. Hey, I'm the crazy one thinking of dropping an sr20de/det into all my 'wish list' cars.

Slipper, thanks for the open invite...Ill have to take you up on it sometime...trying to find a shell ,and the only one I can find right now is a 90 Integra...but I think they are heavy? Is it a worthy shell/light enough?

AaroNX...if you find the link, please pass it along, as I'd like to read about it. At $275.00 a pop, I don't think there's a better value!

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned Ben's installation of an SR20DE into a Geo Metro.

The only thing that would concern me about an SR20 in Honda is the flak you would take from both the Nissan and the Honda camps in public.

Not to mention that Honda does have a pretty good assortment of engines to choose from.

But hey - I'm all for it. I'd love to see the look on a Honda owners face when you pop the hood.

No prob gameday. I say, dont even bother with the integra, its heavier than a 200sx/sentra so theres no real point to doing the swap. I forgot to mention the eg series 92 Civic CX which is slightly lighter than the VX model but i would rather take the VX model because of its aerodynamic underpan.
