I've seen this question come up quite frequently, but I have yet to see a really thourough response to it. I know quite a few of you out there have done one or both of these proceedures. Now would be as good a time as any to reply (especially with pics) if you have the proceedure documented well.

Well, there's no ONE way of doing it. I have a mechanical pressure and I had an electric oil temp. I got the signals for both of them from the pressure sending unit hole in the block.

My electric oil temp was done by hacking the drainplug a little and mounting the sending unit in it attached to the oil pan.

I was going to do the same thing with the temp. probe of my Autometer oil temp. guage, but I read from quite a few sources that more accurate reading could be taken if the probe was placed where a reading could be taken from the oil going to the oil filter. The arguement behind this reasoning is that the temp. of oil at bottom of the oil pan can be quite a bit lower than the temp of oil taken closer to the oil filter.

This is just what I've read and it might not be accurate for our cars. A comparison of readings from forum members with the oil temp probe place somewhere else other than the oil pan, could shed some more light on this (assuming they owned the make and model of gauges).

Just a couple of thoughts to keep this thread active,

Awhile back someone posted pics of a part you can get from Summit racing. It's like a block that you put behind the fitting that the oil filter screws onto. It has taps for oil to be used for a pressure sensor, oil temp sensor, and I'd suppose you can even use it to plumb oil lines to a turbo. Tried to find the thread in a search, no luck. Check out Summit, but I couldn't find anything when I searched their catalog. Sorry.

That's a good point and I was going to ask what people's readings are because I've heard electric gauges are not as accurate as mechanical. My readings are max 180* on scorcher days stuck in traffic. When I beat it, it doesn't rise at all. My friend has an RX-7 and if he goes more than 110km/h, his gauge reads 210*.

Do SR20DET's run cooler than other engines?? (I'm running 5W30 Synthetic)

Are you think of OverEngineered Components Oil Distribution Block?? If so I can help you purchase one...

I'm using a Greddy Electric Oil Pressure Guage. The sender threads directly into where the stock oil pressure switch goes. Just disconnect that, it's useless anyways.

I've heard about those. Just be sure to run lines to the tap and mount the block someplace solid. I've heard that the combination of the additional weight can cause the fitting on the block to crack (not a good thing).

I'm really glad to see so many informative replies to this thread. Looks like this information is in high demand.

where is the stock sensor?

Underneath the intake manifold, on the backside of where the oil filter goes.

Greddy has an interesting part for these purposes. Simple. Check it out at the bottom of the page: http://www.greddy.com/products/oilcoolerkit_frame.htm

I questioned them about the use of this unit on my GTiR det and here's the response:

The best oil block adapter for your application would be 12002732. This
adapter retails for $68, is designed for the early model SR20DET motors and
can be purchased through any Authorized GReddy Dealer. Please see:
http://greddy.com/dealers/ for a dealer near you.

That's a sweet looking piece bigred. My only concern would be about space. It's hard enough to get my oil filter on and off now. I don't know how I'd be able to do it with Greedy's oil filter adapter installed. Now that I think about it. It must be meant for RWD SR20DET's installed in 240s'/Silvia's, which have tons more space around the engine.

That Greddy part is the one I was talking about earlier.

A little bit of modification and it could be done easy enough.

First of all you would have to cut down the tube on the filter mount on your engine in order to install that Greddy adapter. Keep in mind we got that big long tube that sticks up into the filter.

Second you go and get an oil filter relocate kit from anywhere that carries Mr. Gasket prducts (just about anywhere) and put that on top of the greddy unit. Then you can put your filter wherever you want to. And its a bigger filter.

Just my thoughts on the subject.
