: absoluely incredible racing -- NASA summit point
awdracer 05-05-2009, 03:16 PM That's the funny thing about the fast Hondas.
Bearings every few races. Axles every couple of races ($800 per set hybrids). 3 weekends for the engine (the top H1 guy around here brings spares engines and swaps them at the track). They spend some coin on those things.
Joelamite 05-05-2009, 03:26 PM One more thing...
The shop told him his hub was bad too and needed to be replaced. .
Wade
Are the hubs actually bad or are they to lazy to cut the outer race off.
Scca_Ev 05-05-2009, 03:33 PM Joelamite, you get my pm?
awdracer 05-05-2009, 06:25 PM Are the hubs actually bad or are they to lazy to cut the outer race off.
His story was that it was bad. He fixes a lot of stuff for me so I feel good about his assessment. I just bought a new hub from Courtesy.
Rockwood 05-05-2009, 09:09 PM Damned fine racing there sirs. Todd did a great job of defending that inside line and killing any attemp by Scott to inside-out him.

No prob. just offering .02 worth of advise for free.
I have seen this go two ways, the above and true, and the outer race seized on the hub requiring a hub replacement as there is no way to get a bearing knife or other special tool between the flange on the hub and this pressed on race. I use a dremal tool and a bit for hard steel, like a drill bit but for side cutting, same one I used to cut the supercharger pulleys off of Mini's, to cut a deep groove in the race and smack it with a hammer and chisel, this cracks the race and it comes right off saving the hub.

And there was no love to the outside because of the track breaking up. It was undriveable on the outside of any of the turns. I got up beside him in 7 but almost spun.

My outer race is stuck on the hub. On the outer surface near the inside edge, the surface is messed up a little. Can this be filed down or do I need a replacement?

We just inspected Scott's hub at the shop. His bearing did spin. The shop owner said that he could pull the race off of my hub. He'll file down the bad spot on the hub, but he recommended putting my spare on the car and making my current hub/knuckle as the spare. So, I'll start bringing this rebuilt one to the track for us to use. Joe, he races at Langley (was racing U class, but now races trucks). He can't be too bad!

But the guy did say something about Pro-6 being Weak Sauce.
He also said that no one liked the Nissan motors and that the domestic stuff made more power. I had to pull Wade off him to prevent a beat-down. It was about to get ugly.

Good stuff!
I'm picturing the copy machine scene from office space!

Sounds like you found a good tech!
It's nice to find techs that are actually into cars. I have met so many that see repairing cars no different to repairing a heat pump.
I'll be out runnin circles again. Just picked up a Street Stock tonight.
These old American hunks of sh$# sure are fun!
I may even make it down to Langley as they just picked up this class this year.
They call them enduros in your parts.

You guys want to rent it one night?
There are not many in this class yet at langley, at southside we have had up to 50+ on the 1/3 mile oval.
Rockwood 05-07-2009, 11:44 AM Yeah, I had an alignment guy who raced cars. Unfortunately, he blew his back up, so that was that.
dmingis 06-02-2009, 02:02 AM Sorry for responding to an old thread......
I went through a lot of axle problems on my car and what turned out to be the problem (Todd found the solution, thanks Todd!!!) was the CV joints were cracking open under full compression. The similarity with what you guys are seeing is that this would also KILL the bearing. I replaced many many bearings and axles together tracking this down, every freaking race one or the other would fail!!!!
Another similarity -- the car would steer to one side as the axle was going bad, and then snap back to being ok.
The solution for me was stiffer front springs. I went from 700 lb/in to 800 lb/in and neither axles nor bearings have failed.
On the comment on Honda bearings....I don't know, but if I can feel play in them I replace them, and I check often. I don't understand replacing when there is no play.
Anyway, hopefully my comments will either help you guys or you can prove/disprove my theory, either way buy me a beer or call me an idiot :)
I had the Integra out with a test driver (friend getting comp license) last weekend and happy to say she is ready for Hyperfest! I'm praying for 100 degrees and 99-100% relative humidity.

Suuuuuuuuure you are.

How low was your car though?
awdracer 06-02-2009, 05:02 PM How low was your car though?
Low enough that several people in the paddock were heard to say "What's up Holmes?" and some quote about "bad ass hydraulics" and as they passed by.
Honestly, we couldn't get the trophy girls off of his car.
It was THAT low.
lightningd 06-02-2009, 06:09 PM perera was having the same exact problem in his 2nd gen teg. he ended up custom making some axles to allow more travel. i believe i had that happen on my old accord, as i had an axle nearly blow up in braking for T1 at VIR, right as i jammed on the brakes. it was a very odd feeling.
dmingis 06-15-2009, 07:30 PM How low was your car though?
Not that low interestingly enough. The control arms were parallel to the ground.
