What part are you having difficulty with, the software or the cable?

Hardware wise there are OBDI and OBDII cables in serial, USB, or PDA format. Your car, and your computer will dictate the proper choice.

On the software side, you've got Nissan Datascan, Conzult, and the Data log viewer. I'd suggest Nissan Datascan, over Conzult, and the data log viewer is optional, I've never used it, so I can't comment on it. Nissan Datascan, as well as most other Consult software programs allows you to save logs in a common format which you can then view with Excel.

There are also a few freeware Consult interface programs, such as Calumsult, ConZult Freeware (http://300zx-twinturbo.com/conzult/software/free_conzult.exe), and possibly another one or two. The freeware version of Conzult may give you all you need if you're just looking for diagnostics, and reading sensors. It will also put the car in timing mode. For more features, the cable plus Nissan Datascan is a good choice. You will no be disappointed with the extra $30 you spend on the software. Do some reading on the features of the various programs so you can make an informed choice.

thanx chris. your always good for an informed answer :) im in a b13, so it'd be an OBD1. i have realtime, so i already have calumsult. also i have the freeware conzult which is basically the same as calumsult. im basically looking for something that reads more in depth. my buddy just finished his turbo integra. im looking for something like the hondata...a sort of realtime tuning program. funny you mention conzult, i have yet to figure out how to put the car in timing mode with conzult. it is freeware version, so maybe the option isnt avail till purchased?

Then you don't need the blazt cable. Am I missing something here?

For more comprehensive monitoring software, get Nissan Datascan. For tuning, use TunerPro RT (free). Also check out http://www.nistune.com, I haven't used it, so I can't give you much info on it.

To get Conzult into timing mode, click the Base Idle Adjustment button.

ah ha...so thats why my idle gets a little screwy when i click that tab. now i know. thanx chris. i was wondering why i couldnt adjust my base idle in the base idle adjustment tab. lol.

ok then. i was misinformed. i thought the blatz took a different look at the ecu. so its just a software upgrade i need. i have tunerPro also. i have a version of datascan, but when i input my email addy for verification to get the unlock code, it tells me the email is non-recognizable. i will have to call them. thanx a bunch chris for the clarification. i hate asking "noob" questions! i struggle loooong and hard before i post something i think everyone should know. lol, you are the man!

now, if only i could get you to NH to help me find my cold idle gremlin!!! hahaha

that u cant do with free conzult, or the full version? free conzult has limited sensors, cant log, no gauges, no active tests (aside from base idle thing) etc.

if your looking to do something like edit the fuel/ignition maps, thats not going to happen because they are read-only so u need a daughterboard etc to edit them

i have realtime and use tunerPro to adjust. i guess i just dont really fully understand how to use: claumsult/conzult/scantech. i guess im just missing something, although ive spent endless time "playing" with the these programs while in my car plugged in and monitoring. what do you use to monitor and tune?

you calum realtime has a consult port already onboard doesnt it? so why are u asking about getting a cable? have u read all the docs in calums sticky on the realtime boards?
