It's not necessary, but I'm sure it'd help. I've seen several DET installs, FMIC and not, that all used the stock battery location, so it's possible.

My NX is fmic and the cone filter was between the tower and the battery, so I guessed that there could be more air going to it if the battery wasn't there. I'm sure it helped in a way or another.

I put mine in the trunk to make more room up front but i wish i left it because it becomes more of a hassle than its worth buying the kit finding a nice distrubution block and wire everything. The room is nice but if you are into drag racing then you are taking weight off the front tires and putting in the back of the car. Also it becomes a pain if you need a jump start or need to charge the battey, not too much but you get the point.

i want to relocate my battery too, but i want to do it NHRA specs since i want to take my car to the strip and its a required rule for the closest 1/4 to me. any one know were i could find some info on the NHRA rules for this ? i looked around and couldnt find any thing all that clear about it. other than a certifed box.

As long as you have the battery bolted down with J bolts and secured in a box you will be okay to run...

Hey Nick, Mopac have the relocation kit (NHRA approved)for $160.00 plus taxes. Hard plastic & Blue in colour. They also have a cheaper metal kit for sale. I'll be picking up the blue kit soon.

Summit Racing sells the Moroso box that is NHRA approved. Click on the product information and it provides a link to NHRA's rules pertaining to trunk mounted batteries.

Besides being a sealed box that is bolted down, there must also be an external power kill switch located at the rear of the car. Check it out, theres a good explanation.

I think That $160.00 for a battery box Is expensive. I know alot of you may want a name brand Item but I got my box from fleet farm. It's a local chair store that sells farm supplies marine and auto parts, hunting equipment.anyways I bought a marine battery box for $7.99,It looks clean as hell and very cheep.I asked the guy at the track and he says that is fine to run with.It came with, the straps and mounting hardware.Buy your battery cable in bulk and save even more cash, I think I have under $30.00 bucks in the whole thing.I have seen this same box for sale in relocation kits as well.
