I'm still thinking about bringing my modified Sentra SE-R (1993) over from the mainland and wanted to know what a "safety inspection" entails. I thought I saw a post on a yahoo board that someone got tagged for modified exhaust (which I have), modified intake (which I have with a C.A.R.B sticker), and some other things.
What do the safety inspections look for? There is no smog regulation correct? Does anyone run straight/test pipes there? How strict are they on Oahu?
Thanks.

lets just say everything has to be DOT approved... if there is aftermarket stuff and what not, you'll have to go through a reconstruction inspection too. somethin like ***.

Yeah, I figured that I'd have to go through recon.
What do they look for? I believe everything is DOT approved (don't know what wouldn't be to be honest), but it's not slammed to the ground and it doesn't have huge body kits on it. From outside it looks pretty stock.

i would suggest you find another set of stock suspension(someone over here would probably let you borrow one) to get a safety check. do you have an exhaust? is it loud? the other option is to get recon, but ur suspension can't be too crazy... i'll try and find the link for the recon station and post it up...

That's messed up that I might have to switch out the suspension. It's not crazy, just some KYB AGX (normal adjustible struts) with some custom springs, but nothing super slammed (almost looks stock). Yup, do have a fairly loud exhaust though, may need to buy/craft a silencer for it.
Thanks for the info.
