: Cracked SR20 Cranks???

Anyone else come across this?

Been trying to source a good crankshaft for my GTIR for an age now.
After pulling the fourth one out of an engine on Saturday, and finding it is also cracked... I am starting to wonder!!!

All four I have checked including my original one, have had hairline cracks along the inside of number three or four rod journal, running in line with the casting mark. These cracks are pretty hard to see, but go deep into the crank (I ground the hell out of one to see for sure). Have pics somewhere if anyone interested.

I found this previous post -

So I am wondering, as I was always under the impression that these cranks were pretty strong and not known for failure, but on the other hand rod bearings, esp no three / four are I believe reasonably? common failures.

So could it be that the cracks are not enough to weaken the crank significantly being longitudinal, but contribute to bearing failure?
On that note, my UK GTIR had done 80k miles in completely standard trim, with a full nissan service history, and vgood oil pressure before I stripped it, and it had fkd rod bearing. The rest of the engine was immaculate barely even any oil staining, only this hairline crack mark on the crank!

Any input appreciated
