Ok guys here's my perdicament...I have been searching for an O2 sensor for my car, Im barely putting on the turbo so I need the bung off of a -de manifold, yesterday I decided to just tap the one in the elbow, I got the right size tap and everything but then they told me that their O2 sensors vary on the amount of wires, they asked me how many wires and I said 3, they waid their o2 sensors are universal, as long as the wires are right...red-to-red white-to-white and black-to-black, well my point is cant I just use the o2 sensor that came in the elbow but just rewire it or do i need to tap it and buy a genuine 90 dollar o2 sensor

I have a o2 sensor for a det three wire....$FREE
universal o2 sensor for a three wire car...$ 45
stock replacement o2 sensor....................$ 90

I guess what I want to know is if the universal one is ok...this is from a shop called western auto, its like a kragen/autozone type..

if anyone has tried this please let me know your thoughts and your guys intellegence....

Thanks alot

kenley

I found a borg warner one for my car for about the same price. It is a universal one.You cant use the det one unless your using a bb ecu.I just made this mistake and it cost me 3 weeks of head ach's trying to figure this out. You will more than likely need to make the wires on the o2 longer than the stk ones so the universal is'nt a bad way to go. Just save the stk wire harness and use that with the new o2 installed into that. It should come with instructions on what wires go to the stk harness .but you will need a service manual that tells you what the wires on your harness are for. example , red wire =dc voltage , black wire =ground . exc........ These are not true !! just example. when you extend these wires remember they are out in the eliments use shrink rap. good luck i hope i helped you out a little.

Kenley,

it has been tried with success a lot of times.

Just make sure the universal sensor is quoted as replacement for our cars. For example, I know that Bosch 13039 is for our car and work fine - did it myself.
