: turbo or na. i cant decide!!
rigganklg20 05-17-2009, 10:50 PM hey guys
i got a 96 g20 and have been piecing the turbo for a few months but ive been talking to a local buddy up here in cincy lately and he's advising me not to turbo the motor cause it has 159xxx and the compression is stock de ( 9.5.1)
i know plenty of people out there have turbo'd their de's and was seein what you guyz think i should do. turbo or build it N/A?? i've been thinking about this for weeks and cannot decide but mabe a bit of advice from people w/ a shit ton more experience than I , i might be able to make a decision.
if i do turbo it, it will run stock boost off t25 and i will not beat it(its my daily driver to and from work and college) also am def not gonna hot pipe it i got a side mount. almost everything's here just need to tune the ecu and fuel pump and injectors, but im second guessing it:confused:
advice would be greatly appreciated on what you guys think i should do
thanks and if you wanna make fun for being such a newb no offense will be taken lol
i'm sure this thread will come in handy for many newbs to come
LikeTheMovies 05-17-2009, 11:02 PM Do a compression test and that will tell you weather or not you should turbo it. Take the valve cover off and check that out for sludge and such.
ruppenduro 05-17-2009, 11:09 PM why turbo or mod it if you are not going to beat on it? lol
i`m turboing my 170k de right now, and to be completly honest i will probably not baby it. i have turbo'd a couple higher mileage de's in the past, one with 150k, one with a little under 140k. both handled the boost excellently. there is nothing like boost, even with just a t25. it would be tough to get the same feel n/a without spending a fortune on internal engine work. you can go ve, but again it won`t be too quick unless you dump some bucks in it.
rigganklg20 05-17-2009, 11:35 PM haha sorry i meant to say won't beat on it often
i'm glad to hear your de's have handled the boost well
as for compression test i am doing one tuesday but what will the numbers tell me? all i know is all cylinders should be within 5% of eachother. anything else i should know or look for?
budgetNX 05-18-2009, 02:41 AM dude. honestly, its YOUR decision.
i had a 10:1 de and turbo'd it. and wished i wouldnt have. i like NA muuuch more than turbo. but thats ME, its alllll up to you
denske 05-18-2009, 06:25 AM turbo
/thread.
nnoriega 05-18-2009, 11:27 AM there's nothing like the feel of the boost kiking in or the spool sound.
Turbo all the way, I think I couldn't go back to N/A, my 2 cents.
skcusloa 05-18-2009, 04:22 PM go turbo :)
morgans432 05-18-2009, 05:39 PM grow a set and boost it to the moon. Blow it up and do it all over again doesnt get better than that.
Rockwood 05-18-2009, 07:26 PM Depends on how much you want to vacuum out your wallet... No cheaper way to make anywhere from 200whp to 500whp than turbo.
MUFASA 05-18-2009, 07:29 PM if its a DE turbo it because they are cheap and easy to get
if it a VE keep it N/A
thats what i would do
SentraDude 05-18-2009, 07:51 PM My buddy had a sr20de+t and sold it, then put a ve in a b13 and wishes he never sold the sr20de+t.. ve is fast... but boost is..hmm. no way to describe it :) go boost.
NYs92se-r 05-18-2009, 08:13 PM i was going through the same thing about a month ago..still havent finished but im def. boostin...cant wait omg lol...i have all the parts just waiting of a fpr and my ecu and then taking to get the IC piping done and im gonna be in boost heaven
When you go turbo there is a lot more you can do for less money than n/a. You can go with a bigger turbo or just turn up the boost a lil for fun. With an N/A car you can play with the fuel and timing a little bit but thats just boring. And if you want to go real fast you will have to dump a shit load on internal parts.
nsusammyeb 05-18-2009, 08:35 PM boost ftw
bgreen 05-18-2009, 09:08 PM Boost but take your time
budgetNX 05-18-2009, 11:19 PM all for turbo: 11
all for NA: 1
lol
thats one of the main reasons i love NA
sr20aaron 05-26-2009, 08:53 PM if you had to ask, just stay n/a.
t bags 05-26-2009, 09:00 PM comp. test then slap a t28 on their
memeponce 05-28-2009, 10:37 AM Go turboĦĦĦĦ
i have my primera turbo for daily driver and drag, its incredible
Kariba 05-28-2009, 06:49 PM I actually was in the same dilemma; I just couldn't decide whether to go boosted of n/a. Then after a very long and colorful conversation with my mechanic (you can imagine the exchange of words) I decided to get boosted. I've driven Hondas and I've driven boosted cars and there's no comparison between boost and/or VVL/V-Tech; BOOST RULES. With a nice T28 Turbo you can run a comfortable 10-12psi daily without breaking anything. Just make sure you have your fuel and ignition side of things setup properly.
