: Which Wheel Paint for the Track?

Hi Guys,

I had a shop paint my wheels in Chevy Orange. One race weekend later, the paint cracked and peeled. Now I am very pissed. I should have had them powder coated like I did with my first set.

Is there a wheel paint that can handle the intense heat that come from the calipers/rotors?

TIA

Just the high temp stuff, but that doesn't come in many colors.

Rustoleum will bond to anything.

I promise.

My entire car has it. The body, cage, wheels, and tires. Yes, tires.

AJ doesn't paint wheels. He looks at the can and the paint applies itself out of fear.

That's weird. A set of my track wheels are painted and they're fine. Maybe the shop didn't do the best job of prepping the wheels first?

SE-R wheels with Maxima metallic grey + some silver mixed in:

I have pics of them after several track events too, which I could post. I think it must be the prep job.

I always use the High Temp Engine Enamel and haven't had an issue.

I'm sure Naji's wheels are seeing more heat than yours James, for many reasons:

1. He's a sissy and uses the brakes a lot. :D
2. He's rocking B14 brakes.
3. He's racing for 40 minutes (not sure if you're hotlapping with those, or racing, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :D).
4. His wheels probably have thinner spokes, concentrating the heat more. Whatever wheels he's running, they surely have less material than B14 wheels.

lol - there's another good reason, now I think about it, that his would see more heat than mine.

Those are my rain wheels!

I use the TE37s with r-compounds for the dry. And you're right - hotlapping, not racing. Although I'm hardly gentle on the car - I do drive the crap out of it.

Hopefully I can make some real racing this year - but working as pit crew.

Although I did do a two-day race school and part of a lapping day the following day with them!

All in the dry.
