Now im not sure if this will also apply to the 92,93,94 years, but this is what happened to me, and figure id post which is which.

First off, im one of the guys whos oil filter blew off due to the old owner putting the wrong one on. So I did some searching and found a few things. This applys if you have a oil filter attachment that has threads and then a 1 to 2in nipple at the end. Heres a pic:

The filter on the right is for a 95+ the left is for 91-94 w/the theads + nipple. You can tell the difference because the 91-94 one on the left has NON recessed threads, and the other has recessed threads.

This is what happens when u use the wrong one:

Hope this helps some members!!!!

Yeah. Looks like you found out the difference between low-port and high-port oil filters the hard way...it happens. My room-mate did that when he bought a P11 with a U12 (turbo high-port) dropped in. He just asked for the oil filter for a 99 g20t. It didn't blow all over as badly as yours, since I was standing in front of the engine bay checking things over (No I didn't get coated in oil), and had him cut it off.

Good post with pics showing the difference between the two.

Yes you will learn the hard way if you dont know it. *** biggest problem is the Fram filter for the 1991 SER is the wrong one also. I bought a K&N filter, cost me like $13 for it. Its expansive, but correct... Its part number 103 i think.

If it has JDM engine it might take lowport filters. Like the 96 JDM DE in my SE-R. Must check to be sure.
