What year did they lower the rev limiter in the g20 computers to 7000. I'm looking to see if there is a crossover between the OBDII and higher rev limiter computers. with a 91 cam my car pulls hard all the way up the rev limit, at that point the computer retards the timing and there is a major loss of power. I know you SE-R guys use the computer from the old g20's to raise the rev limit and eliminate the speed govenor. I would like to raise my rev limit to 7300 so I can get more use of my cam, but I don't want to have a engine light come on.

thanks for your help

Try if you can, but dont spend too much money on it.
theres not much up there with the 91 cam after 7100 rpm... i guess it is fun though

They went to OBDII in '96. I would think anything 95 and older would be what you're searching for, with 91-93 being priority.

Why 91-93 ? are they the one with the higher rev limiter? If that is the case then I'll stick with my Ecu or maybe a JWT waaaaaaaaay down the road. I was also thinking of cam gears to bring the power band under the limit, and increace the overlap. That maybe a cheaper alternative that will give me two fro the price of one.

The G20 went to OBD2 in '94. Look for a '94 or '95 ECU. I believe the '96 had the 7100 rev limiter, but I'm not sure.

AFAIK, OBDII was not adopted by EPA for implementation until January 1, 1996. That's why only the '97+ model cars are truly OBDII. Check out OBD II info page (http://www.obdii.com/background.html#What)
Somebody running a G20 ecu in their 98 se-r can tell which year G it came from.

Oldie

That may be true, but the '94 and '95 G20 were OBD2. I'm running a '94 G20 ECU in my wife's '97 SE-R, with no CES lights. By '96, all Nissans in the US were OBD2. That's why there's no '96 300ZX JWT ECU. '96 was the first year for OBD2, and the last year for that car.

I'm gonna try and find one cheap so I can give it a shot.. I heard that the 99+ g20's use the 97 se-r computers w/ JWT reprogram but still get a MIL light. I also saw a few 99's SE's here with JWT and G20 ecu's and if I remember correct they both had lights. I definetly don't want a light on, but I'm sure I can sell the computer here if it doesn't work for me. I'll see how cheap I can find it.

i got a 95 g20 ecu in my 96 200sx ser, no check engine lights... well i got one now but only because my header is crakced in two, so no air is getting to the second o2 sensor...

G20's went OBD-2 in the '94 model year, not '96. All P10 G20's ('91-'96) had a 7500rpm redline. It wasn't until the P11 G20 debuted in '99 when the redline was reduced to 7000rpm.

Exactly! :D And it screams all the way up to 7500 too! :D

That is correct. The G20 went OBDII in the '94 MY. I have a '93.5 G20 and it is the last model before the OBDII's started. Same redline as my classic also. :D

OK I have read here someone with a 99 SE or SEL running a g20 computer and he has a light on his dash. and I saw another one with a JWT computer from a 97 and he also has a light on his dash. Can anybody with a 99 or newer with an alternate computer tell me if they have a ligt on.

iirc its the 98-99 sentras that get the dtc due to the o2 sensor being smaller so you could just swap out to the 97 and down o2 sensor and bung.

I'm doing some searching now. and what I see is you get EGR & rear o2 codes. How much would the rear o2 be.
