: SE-R friendly mechanic around Akron
kman92classic 09-05-2002, 12:45 PM I just finished an engine replacement, and I need someone with more advanced tools and advanced knowledge to do the final tune-up for me.
I want to send it to someone who is good with this car/engine.
I'm in the Akron, OH area. Can anyone suggest a good mechanic for me to go to?
What exactly do you need help with? I am in Kokomo, IN.
kman92classic 09-07-2002, 09:40 PM Well, I think the salvaged engine I put in is no good. The plug on the 4th cylinder comes up fouled and black, and the engine idles really rough. I'm almost certain that I've got a serious problem, perhaps a bad cylinder. Whatever it is, it is beyond my expertise.
Are you getting spark at that cylinder? Pop the plug wire off that plug and see if it will arc to the valve cover. If so, the next step is to do a compression check. Forum member jacen99SE is nearer to you than I. Send him a PM and see if he will help you with a compression check if need be.

kman92classic 09-14-2002, 04:18 PM Currently the car is at a shop in Alliance. They're almost sure that it is a sensor problem, but are unable to really diagnose it as they don't have the proper chip for their computer. At this point, I've finished tearing down the old engine, so I think I'm just going to finish it and drop it in.
Thanks for the offer, anyways.
Blair 09-16-2002, 08:25 PM Nice to see another Akron SE-R!! Plugging an aftermarket tester in probabaly won't tell them much ( OBD1 ecu's don't have the capacity to tell individual mis-fires, etc ) I'd run the usual tests first. I can't think of a sensor off the top of my head that would drop one cyl only. Let me know if I can help.
kman92classic 09-16-2002, 08:33 PM ROck...haven't found any other Akron area fanatics yet either...
The car is currently at a shop in Alliance. I'd be embarrased to show it to anyone right now. It is still a mess from the first engine replacement (my oily handprints all over her...). But complete disregaurd for cleanliness aside, I'll have it back shortly. Perhaps we could get together and play around with it. I'm not too concerned about this engine. I'm rebuilding the old one right now to drop back in. Some mods in store for it, too (11:1 compression w/ Arias pistons, hopefully).
Anyways...I'll be in touch.
Blair 09-16-2002, 08:51 PM There are a few of us around. The whole NE Ohio group kinda split up after Mark S. left. I still wanna put something together but it prolly won't be till next spring now. As far as the greasy hand print covered car, you haven't seen my track car!! 2 years of no sun and neglect!! There have been a few SE-R's coming down to "Super fly Sunday" a little sunday evening car show in the valley. I'm usually down there with my street NX and a few B15's.
kman92classic 09-16-2002, 08:54 PM Sounds cool...I may try to check it out this weekend.
Where at in the Valley? I'm thinking over by Scorchers or something...fill me in, please.
Blair 09-16-2002, 11:10 PM it's in the metroparks parking lot off of Memorial pkwy.
