So im washing my car today and as im drying the doors and inside near the weather strip i notice on my passenger front door near the windsheild im getting surface rust!

my car is a 99 has been babied waxed routinely (not lately though) washed, dried completly including all door jambs trunk hood and any crevices i can fit a cloth shammy or absorber into.

i know someone else with a b15 that had over 60k had some rust he took it to the dealer and they said it was neglect. i know how dealers are a**holes since i worked for a big one (a**hole) my car has just over 33200 miles what do you guys think they will do? say it is neglect or warrenty it if any?

i think the first option will more than likely happen. but one thing for sure im not going to my old nissan dealer aka a**hole to have it looked at

99's are supposed to have a 5 year unlimited mileage rust warranty. Take it to the dealership. If they give you crap, call up 1800-nissan1 and complain to them.

Be staunch, and make them do something about it. They just need a little prodding to get your way. Good luck.

If the dealer gives you any BS, go over their heads and go to Nissan corporate. That dealership will catch hell from them for not resolving a customer complaint, and dealerships can't risk any of their benefits being in jeopardy with a poor customer service rating. Don't give in.

Unless things have changed since 2k1, that warranty only covers rust that comes from the inside out. I don't think it covers surface rust. Basically, rust that starts from the inside and works it's way through the top of the panel is VERY rare.

My guess, and it's only a guess, it that there was a scratch there which left exposed paint. It doesn't have to be a big scratch---something as small as a stone chip would do it. From there, it just srpead, gradually. It stinks, I know. However, I think the dealer will most likely decline your claim for rust repair under warranty.

Better yet----why don't I just GIVE you the car. It sits in a barn and has collected only 900 miles since May. 650 of that was going to Ben's house in Kokomo;) I don't suspect I will put even 2k on it a year. It's a fun little car--thanks for the kind words.

i couldnt have said it better myself, i actually work for a company that is PAID by 40 dealerships in the northeast to call their customers and make sure the service was good... if it wasnt we let the dealership know and they do everything in their power to solve the problem! the last thing a dealership needs is the manufacturer knowing they suck, which ends up in an out of business dealership.

That is correct! I have the 2K with 62,000 miles. And that is what they said! Then I said well if this surface rust, rusts though would it be covered? Nope, that would be neglect!

I'll tread lightly here and say that the dealer is truly correct. Now don't go and start flaming me:) Your car looks like it's your pride and joy. The fact is that 75% of the population looks at the car as transportation only. They call that neglect because they figure you didn't take the time to touch the spot in that caused the rust. They assume that if you see a stone chip, you will clean and then paint it so that it doesn't rust. I don't think they are out of line to assume that either.

With that being said, I can't believe when they SAW the rest of your car that they didn't notice you were a fanatic about the car. Had I seen that I would be more willing to help you as the consumer. The fact remains that the chip or scratch wasn't repaired by you, the owner. In their minds that's neglect and it truly is. I would just think that they would make an exception after seeing the way you treated the rest of the car. Not to mention that a scratch in the door jamb is a LOT more difficult to detect than one on the hood. I'd clean the car up and take it somewhere else for another opinion. A car that new shouldn't even have surface rust...period.

Good luck!

I wish I had a camera show I could show you were the rust is! i will try to explain! Trunk lid, inside by were the latch mechanism is! It's that lip area. There are 3 major spots, I always dry all lips and seal areas of car when drying! 2 spots have started to show up since I spotted the first! It sucks that I also drive my car for work and put alot of miles on it!

trance was the person i was talking about where the dealership denied the claim.

there is no way a scratch could have developed this is right by the weather strip on the body of the car not the door near the windsheild passenger side.

i took it to a nissan dealer after work today but they had no body shop :(
taking it to star nissan next im not going back to my old hell hole

Nissan rust warranty is for rust perforation. It has to be a rust HOLE.

so that means you need to let the rust eat thru your car at the time they will say you neglected it. this is the reason im never buying a new nissan till they get their act together. I'm also glad im not wrenching for the nissan stealership anymore either.

well guys i finally got around to take my car in for inspection of the rust spot and they service writer said it looked like it would be covered but that the nissan rep (as usual) needs to look at it first and give the ok or no go. i cant ifnd my digi cam once i do i will post a pic of the spot.

all i have to do is wait for a call back from the dealership on setting up a date.

one thing im happy about is the writer was cool as hell we even talked about my old job at woodfeild nissan and how the main heds their are a**holes since he worked for them too

my car was hit on the pass side but had a scrape from the rear 1/4 panel to the front door which was repainted not the inside of the a pillar.

the rep said it could have been caused by stress fracture  i'll give nissan some stress fractures. pos company :p well i am going to call 1800nissan1 and see if i can get anything done if not no biggie i will fix it myself
