I was just wondering if anyone here had actually put a Bluebird DET into a 2000 or newer G20...if so, how did you handle the engine management? I know that I can use a '96 ECU, and that I have to totally repin the conector, but I was wondering if anyone here had actually done it before?

It's a lot easier just to use the harness that came with the engine and it's computer. It's really no fun at all to use the existing harness with anything other than a roller engine. You have to change the MAF, AIC, IAT, and O2 sensors w/harnesses anyway, so why not just swap the whole bloody thing? You can grab a wiring harness from any '91-97 SE-R or '91-93.5 G20 for $75-150 from a salvager, about the same price (but in addition to) an ECU, so the cost is really negligible in the long run. If you're having JWT reprogram the ECU, I'd start with an SE-R ECU, though; the OBD-II stuff is just too much of a hassle IMNSHO.

Ok, so how big of a pain in the ass is it to switch the whole engine harness out...anyone done it before? I've done it in an Impreza/WRX and it sucked a fat one.
Also, what do you think of Greddy E-Manage? Does it allow you to change the redline/revlimiter?

It's not really that big of a pain. On an SR20, there are only a handfull of connectors that go from the wiring harness that don't go directly from the ECU to the engine itself. A the O2 sensors, IAT sensor, and a couple others come to mind. It's dastardly simple; disconnect said handfull of sensors, disconnect the ECU, drop the entire engine w/harness still attached. Put new engine, with harness attached, back onto lifting device, bolt it up, reconnect the sensors and ECU. Start engine and drive away.

Wow! That sounds like it should take me about 20 minutes!:D

Seriously though, thanks for the help Dren...I think now that I'll probably switch the whole harness out. That seems to be simpler than completely redoing the roller-rocker harness connector. Thanks.

The claim is that it can be done in an hour if you have a two-post car lift. Nobody believes that, but I bet it can be done in under two.
