I had two injectors go bad. I bought two new ones from Greg at Mossy for $179. I installed the injectors myself and connected everything correctly. But then the car acted like it wasn't getting fuel. We rechecked all the connections, but the only way we could get it started was by spraying starting fluid into the intake plenum, then it would die. I got tired of messing with it so I took it to a shop to get fixed. I had him put in a new starter ($160). He also said that my fuel pump went bad. The thing is when we were checking stuff we unhooked the line that goes to the fuel rail and turned the key on and the pump would come on and spray fuel everywhere like a hose. He said my pump was bad and put in a new one ($150). Now I got a bill for $600. Damn. He said he worked on it for 5 hours. Would that be about right for the labor and parts? Seems steep in the labor department to me. But at least my car is running.:D Anybody ever bought a fuel pump? How much? Did you put it in yourself? If not, how much for labor? Reply asap.

What car do you have? There was a recall sometime ago for fuel pumps on B13s.

As far as the labor... 5 hours at $75 is $375 plus $310 parts plus tax puts it just above $700. Of course, it shouldn't take him more than a couple hours to replace the fuel pump and starter if he is familar with the car. If he is an independent mechanic and thus not familar with the car it could take a bit longer. Did he do anything else that might account for the five hours like check the injectors, replace the fuel filter, etc? Personally, I can't argue too much about the $600 since you ended up with a "new" (although probably rebuilt) starter and a new fuel pump.

I have a 1994 Sentra SE-R. I'm pretty sure that the fuel pump is the stock unit from 94 also. I think that his cost for labor is about $50 an hour. He isnt' very familiar with the car but he is one hell of an import auto mechanic. He is more familiar with BMW's, Mercedes, and Porches though. I'm sure that he checked the fuel rail and injectors and all the connections, hoses, and vacuum lines. So the time is probably right. About how much does a new fuel pump run? Is that one from Nissan or some other place?

I believe by '94 the fuel pump problem was already identified and should have been fixed by the time your car was made. I've never priced a fuel pump before but $150 doesn't sound unreasonable. If you must know you can always search SE-R.net.

Where can I find more info on the recall on fuel pumps for the B13. Can I find it on se-r.net? I haven't had any problems yet on my 91, but I don't want any problems either. thanks

I had my stock pump replaced back in '95, not aware of the recall. Cost of the Nissan pump was $158, IIRC. So with labor, it was close to $300 for the total job.

Sounds about right.

I think there is something on ser.net about the recall, but all you really need to do is give the service dept. at nissan your vin number and they can check any recalls on the car.
