: S4s installed...question
Chriscar and his neighbor(bill) were nice enough to help install S4s in my 92 last weekend. I am running the JWT S3/4 ECu, but i got a question for guys who installed cams. I have put 80 miles on the car since the install, and i *think* i feel a difference. My Q is, i have been reading, hearing lots of different answers on this one. Some guys had to drive 500 miles, other not as many. So, ANY Cam guys, when did you "notice it"?
Thanks!
Storm88000 09-06-2002, 07:50 PM Wait a couple weeks. Thats how mine was.
spdracerUT 09-06-2002, 08:14 PM I noticed mine the first time I stepped on it.... after a 20 min. constant 2k rpm break in and easy driving for about 50 miles. That was with the S3's, stock ecu, I/H/E. I noticed it a lot more than the header and exhaust. Could be that mine was a 96 and had crappy cams to start with....

Glad you got them in. I kept waiting to see the post about you finishing this job. Was it very hard?
aztecred92 09-07-2002, 12:35 AM I was really patient and waited until I had put 500 miles and changed the oil before I tested my S3/JWT ECU upgrade. My patience was rewarded with awesome acceleration from around 4K RPM all the way up to redline.

The only hard part was when we made him pay for a round of coffee!

I agree with Jordan. I did notice the power gains when I first drove the car. But after a few weeks I felt the car just get better and faster!!
chriscar 09-07-2002, 10:45 AM Well, Rob put some miles on the car, and last night he told me 'S4's ROCK!!!!'.

Yeah, i got probably 100 or so miles, and like everyone is saying, the car just gets better. Very nice pull, the best upgrade for the SE-R hands down!!! :D

I second that!! They are pricey but worth every penny IMHO! :D
to tell you guys the truth i dont feel the difference. i installed my s3s about a month ago and have put around 600 + miles on them. its feel like the engine has balls at idle. but dont feel as much as i thought. mabey cause i still have all the stock exhaust system. my cat back is after market which i think is more restrictive then the stock. getting headers and my cat back changed soon. mabey ill benifit from the cams more after that:rolleyes:
eric96ser 09-07-2002, 11:44 PM I have about 40 miles on my second set of S3s, so I hope these are better than the first ones. I can already tell an improvement in the idle. The funny thing is, my car idles at 1200 rpm. This is with the S3 program. Base idle is 750 (+-), TPS is at .45v, timing at 15deg. Does anyone else have this problem?
Teal97 09-08-2002, 06:31 AM huh?
Crono1321 09-08-2002, 10:03 PM So if you get the JWT ECU program for s4 then it comes with a higher rev limit?

domiguy 09-08-2002, 10:16 PM How long did it take to get installed and would you guys be willing to help me out? I have S4's but I haven't installed them yet. I'm thinking of exchanging them for S3's since I was more of an autocrosser and I'm going to go Turbo later on.

I took me 3 hours or so to do my s3's, only because I rushed NOTHING. Just have a good torque wrench that does inch pounds or one that is accurate down low. I broke mine in on jack stands, since I am in the process of grinding down NX2k calipers to fit under my stock rollers. Maybe I'll get out today.
Crono1321 09-09-2002, 01:54 PM D'oh!!! I was having one of my stupid moments. I meant to say:
Will the JWT S4 program give me a higher IDLE? As opposed to the 750rpm or so the stock one is.

SE-Rican 09-09-2002, 04:00 PM With my S4's my idle is always around 750-850 RPM. I have no idle issues.
