I've been doing research about JDM swap for a while and there are a few things I couldn't quite understand. I was wondering if I could get a cheap JDM motor from K. Watanabe and throw it on my 96 200SX without any problems. I see people on this forum getting engines for as low as $250+s/h, and I really like that price. I have seen a lot of people done this JDM swap on classics, but I can't find enough info for OBDII equipped B14s. I needed to make sure my car passes the emission test here (Utah) before I make any move. I have a Cali emission car too.

If you have any info, please let me know. When I'm clear with this, I am going to purchase an engine.

Oh, Does anyone have JDM P11 motor? I don't think they are as good as P10 motors (weaker cam profiles, roller rocker arms, etc), but I might want to go for a P11 motor since they are newer.

Thanks!!

Hey you should get in touch with Thomas. He blew his motor and put in a JDM one. That thing is STUPID fast too. You could contact him or Andreas Miko. He's the one who did the work. He's a great guy, and he'll be more then happy to give you any info you need.

I think that guy is right. But I dont know about a JMD 250 s/h cost. The compression will be different, but man it is worth it. If you are in Cali, you should have zero problem with finding these baby... as a matter of fact, you should able to find the VE, its better.
Any way, a guy name Chuck in the Texas regional forum just did it about 2-3 weeks ago.... He knows all the hard and tricky part. I think his screen name is Nismo200. Very cool guy.

I talked to Thomas. (thanks Matt4Nissan) He said there's no emission test he needs to worry about at where he lives. So what he did probablly won't work here. I have to figure out the way to pass the emission with JDM besides the 6 pack of beer trick.
And yeah Blackbird, VE would be very nice. But since my car is a 1.6L, SR20DE will make me happy enough for now and it's a lot less expensive, and better parts availability. Thanks for your idea too!

Why not put in a USDM SR20DE? If emissions is a big concern. Granted you won't get AS MUCH Hp but you would be clear as far as emissions go. There's a 98 motor in the classifieds section for sale right now :)

Finding a low milege US spec SR20 is extremely hard. I never saw any motor on sale had less than 50K miles. Yeah, this will the safest and easiest way. Instead of getting a cheap engine and spending thousands of $$$ to make this JDM swap work, maybe I should get the US SR20DE. I see engines on sale in east coast, but I live in Utah. I don't want to be paying too much shipping, so I have to find the engine somewhere closer. This is just difficult. Thanks for your help once again.

AaroNX and kpw97, why you guys are idiots? I guess I am an idiot too?

I don't think emissions go up with a JDM engine, from what I know I believe it would be the same thing. You might have to get a few parts from a USDM engine though, like some parts from the head since the JDM doesn't come with some extra crap that we have here. I would say you should get a JDM, you might be able to get it cheaper than a USDM one, probably easier and it would be better.

If you are worried about emmisions get a JDM and just use the USDM intake manifold with the EGR stuff. To know why we are idiots click on the free turbo kit link in Matt4Nissans Sig.

Right now, I started to look for a US market SR20DE motor again. Motor probablly has less power, but less thing to worry about. Only thing is it is super hard to find a low mileage US motor.

p.s. I am an freak'n idiot too! :D
