Do you guys have problem with the brake light and battery lights stay on the same time? Mine will not shut off. May be I should disconnect the battery and reset it huh?

I think your alternator is dead. Did you notice your power windows are rolling slower? Your wipers are moving slow?? If so, I think you need to replace the alternator.

JGY (www.jgycustoms.com) has used alternator for $40. I think you can buy them from local auto parts store or dealer, but they could cost more. Well, if it's your only car and had to get it fixed right away, that's the only choise, but looks like you have more cars to drive around, so JGY could be your choice.
I will suggest you not to drive your car though. Since alternator is not charging, your car will die very soon when your battery goes out.

Good luck!

as carbon black said, change that alternator ASAP so you don't get stranded.

Good God guys... I went to Pepboys, it is 169 with 75 Core charge. Man, I Still drove it this morning. Iam kind of chicken, so I will fix drop it off my mechanic. It seems to ran fine today. Does the brake light suppose to come on?

thanks again CB200 and Metro

The brake light sounds like a seperate issue. Check the switch for your parking brake, and the fluid level. Only two things I can think of that would trigger that MIL.

My brake light came on when my alternator died before. When I broke a drive belt (alternator was not spinning without belt), brake light came on too. If your battery dies, your Airbag light will turn on too. Then check engine light and your car will die after a second or two. So I'm pretty sure it will come off when you replace your alrernator. If it still doesn't come off after you replace your alternator (it should come off), only thing it i could think is your brake fluid level is low.

Sounds logical to me with CB200
Thanks Matt and CB200, I've been worried all week.
What do you guys think of the remanufacture alternator?

this has been discussed before. every time an alternator goes you get both the battery and the brake light go on. just get the alternator changed/rebuilt and you'll be fine:)

I'm new to this board, but I frequent thevboard. I have a Spec V and my wife has a 97 200SX SE-R, and I'm a fan of both cars.

Anyhow, the brake and battery light started lighting up and turning off for a week. I did the logical thing and checked the brake fluid level and battery, but everything looked fine. Thankfully I found this post.

I drove the 200SX for a day, until I could get a replacement alternator put in. Lucky for me, I've got a friend who did the wrenching for pizza & wings. On the day I had it replaced, the lights were on whenever the rpm's were below 4000...so it was definitely on its way out.

But I registered here to say thanks for the VERY useful info! Especially since it saved my wife from getting stranded (or having to goto the dealership to get it diagnosed and then giving me a $400 invoice).
