Hi I have been lookin for a good SE-R for a while and now came upon one with 78k miles(pretty high) and tis a 97 200sx 5 speed SE-R... The place is asking $6995... Im gonna try for 5500-5800... Now would that be an Ok deal if everything checks out fine? How much longer would it last me? I wanted a highmileage SE-R so I could get a SR20DET... But no luck... PLease lemme knw so I can buy this one ASAP or else back to Civic as my luck for an SE-R for a few months has been bad(bad condition, high mileage, rust or auto :()... Thank you

Well, my '96 has 95k on it. It's great. I haven't had any major problems... just some very minor ones I fixed myself.

As long as the oil has been changed and it hasn't been abused ( off roading or over reving...lol) it should last you well past 150k. It's a very reliable car. If you're looking to replace the DE with a DET then I'm not sure what you'd be concerned about... you either have the money to pay someone to fix the minor stuff that may go wrong or you have the knowledge to do it yourself (especially if you're doing your own DET install).

Buy it Sal! My classic had 117k before I sold it to Ben. These cars will last you a long time. Like Yosho mentioned: As long as the oil has been changed and it hasn't been abused ... :D

I hope you don't over rev it... as in rev it past it's limiter and past what the valve train can support. Redling is not over reving... which is good or I think we'd all be screwed. =)

yeye> one of the only "flaws" in the SR20 is that the motor has smallish oil passages... so it's actually adviseable to redline the motor regularly. This helps build up enough oil pressure to keep those passages clean.

That's 7150rpm, which -should- be exactly 62 mph on the stock tires in second gear.

Oh, I've got 110k on my '97, and it's spent most of it's life driven very very hard. 4 open track days, countless autocrosses, many drag strip passes, and multiple rev limiter bonks every single day.

Temp gauge went over "normal" once (98+ degree track day, end of 30 min session), my oil dipstick tube came out once, and that's the full story on my engine problems. I've had a few problems with other parts of the car, but not much.

Overall, durability of the car has been quite incredible, especially considering how I use it. I hope I didn't just jinx it. :)

Nobody believes me when I tell them that. ;) But I just keep on revving at 112k!

My 97 has 78K on the clock, thats with quite a few 1000+mile trips and about 20 autocrosses. she runs strong, i redline her at the very least once a day, the engine has been the most reliable thing I've ever driven.(have little to say about a few of the externals, but those can be easily replaced)

My car is getting to the point when alotta the externals on the engine are starting to give, alternator, battery, etc. But I look at it as once all that stuff is replaced ...I will have a basically new car again!:D

A whopping 60,046 miles on mine. Driven hard since the day I bought it. Only in the last 3 months has it started consuming oil. It started doing that after I did a engine oil flush.

I have 116k on my B14 and I do a 1000 mile trip at least once a month, runs better than my buddies when he bought his at 44k. Always mobil 1 full sythetic! I use the 15w 50 because I am in the mojave desert it runs sooo very smooth. noticeably smoother than 10w 30 mobil 1

My 96 that I sold has 122k on it now. I just got off the phone with the current owner a little while ago and he said it is running strong. He redlines the car all the time and It keeps getting stronger as it gets older. He lets me take it out for rides once in a while and it feels faster than when I had it! My girls 96 feels really strong with 106k on the clock. My 97 w/ 66k is redline daily and feels stronger everytime I get on it. The car holds up very well but no major problems at all really! (KNOCK ON WOOD) These cars are great and I want to pick up another one to just drop a DET in or a Jspec! They last forever if you take care of them(normal maintenace as in oil changes and tune up). Good luck getting your new car and have a good one!
