Just to preface this all ..I love all cars ...lately I've been a Veedub owner having a modded VW 1.8t GTI and a modded S4 twinturbo ..leases are up soon blah blah blah .. I've owned my share of Nissans and loved them ... 77 280Z, 85 300ZXT, 89 240SX .. and meanwhile learned to love Rotaries .. 80 Rx7, 87 RX7T, and currently 1/2 owner of a 73 RX3 wagon getting a mad paintjob as I type.

Well I've always had friends in 2 camps ...on one side: the DSM crew ..on the other side: SE-R's ... I usually end up going to both car club events (as does the DSM guys) but I find that I have more fun at the SE-R events ..truth be told ..the DSM guys are finally getting a bit humbler though..

I ended up choosing a side: I got my 91 NX2000 a few weeks ago.. I tested the engine out just for the drive home cause I immediately started pulling the motor out (I didn't even register the car yet!) ..by myself after work during the week it took me like 7 hours (over the course of the week) to pull the motor out ..(eventually a friend or 2 helped out) ...gotta hate that DS axle..RWD engine removal is so much easier ....

Yesterday was the day to put the DET in and hopefully start it up.. My good friend from the SER camp ..Henry comes over and brings some other SER guys ..Dave and Rich ... they are on the forum ..I expected Red to come too but I heard he fessed up (thats redman007 for all you forum folks)

Henry told me in advance he'd do the harness transfer for me ..just get the motor out ..so I have the old motor on the floor..and the new motor on a hydraulic cart I just picked up..
For those of you who work alot on motors and don't have much workbench space ....get a hydraulic cart ..it holds lots of weight and lowers and raises ..ideal for motor work..

Well bottom line with the help of the SER crew what I didn't get to transfer was transferred over to the DET ..new clutch installed...extra toys put on ...and the engine was put in!!
Unfortunately, it was getting late and folks had to work today so I have about an hour or two of work left of putting lines back, axles back in and refilling liquids ..hopefully the engine will fire up today!

I guess the moral to this lengthy story is to get your friends together when you want to do the install ...time will fly by and it'll be tons of fun. For those of you who live in jersey and need a place to do your swaps ..who knows maybe i'll open up my garage and invite the buddies over and we'll do it for you ..just bring your wallet ...beer aint cheap!

Henry put a piece of rubber there for now.. ..my motor mount inserts didn't come in on time ..so when I change them I'm going to notch it ...but I thought you have to notch the rib?

Hey Mark, you kow what sucks is that you never really felt what it can do. In about 5 minutes we would have just done the simple tuning rituals as far as timing and tps adjustments, and throttle cable tightening with the mdm100 and then you could have driven CAR and Drivers as well as motor trends top ten handling cars of the year at that time in year in comparison to the acura nsx and other big $ cars. At it's full potential STOCK! you deffinately would have been suprized and sold on the sr20 camp. I was gonna buy a VW golf gti 1.8t like yours but the insurance was over $6000 a year plus 280 a month in payments so I invested in a car that needs no mechanic cause I can do it myself and painted her customising her also alittle euro style. And spent In my money no more than $ 4700. seems like lot but she'll hang with the big $ cars and look expensive as well. I've had her since nov 90 and raced her since so what if I can't let go but why should I? She kicks so much ass and brings somuch attention compared to an m3.(parked next to one and people ask me questions not even noticing the 2002 m3.

RED!! I've been in so many SR20's over the last 10 years ..c'mon ..there's no reason to sell me on the car... I KNOW how good it is. Remember this is a project ..when the car finally hits the street its going to be so much better than stock... turbo motor.. coilover suspension.. so many perf parts ....thumping system .. SER seats ...shortthrow ..so much

Remember also that I've raced against tons of SR20's also ..especially on the road courses ...that's why when I saw an opportunity to pick up an NX2k with ttops ..I couldn't resist.

All I can remember was the year I had a Neon ACR with race tires and boltons ...at the east course in Pocono... the suspension was setup perfect ..my 5 pt harness secure and I was FLYING but I could never pass this older guy in a white NX2k ..he couldn't lose me but I couldn't pass him.. WTF?? my brand new car developed for the road course couldn't pass this old SR20?? it was incredible racing..

BTW: I started the engine but I couldn't drive it anyway ...the flywheel came too late ...motor mounts coming too late... missed one coolant line so I still have to place that .. the coilover suspension will be on its way soon ... still need an exhaust only have the DP .. I'm not in a rush.

I'm actually dropping the tranny today again to put in the new flywheel..

Marc
91 NX2K (BB DET in and runs ..still more work to go)

Good luck with the project. I'll be undertaking one myself very shortly. I have a FMAX stage 2 on the way.
