Just to preface this all ..I love all cars ...lately I've been a Veedub owner having a modded VW 1.8t GTI and a modded S4 twinturbo ..leases are up soon blah blah blah .. I've owned my share of Nissans and loved them ... 77 280Z, 85 300ZXT, 89 240SX .. and meanwhile learned to love Rotaries .. 80 Rx7, 87 RX7T, and currently 1/2 owner of a 73 RX3 wagon getting a mad paintjob as I type.
Well I've always had friends in 2 camps ...on one side: the DSM crew ..on the other side: SE-R's ... I usually end up going to both car club events (as does the DSM guys) but I find that I have more fun at the SE-R events ..truth be told ..the DSM guys are finally getting a bit humbler though..
I ended up choosing a side: I got my 91 NX2000 a few weeks ago.. I tested the engine out just for the drive home cause I immediately started pulling the motor out (I didn't even register the car yet!) ..by myself after work during the week it took me like 7 hours (over the course of the week) to pull the motor out ..(eventually a friend or 2 helped out) ...gotta hate that DS axle..RWD engine removal is so much easier ....
Yesterday was the day to put the DET in and hopefully start it up.. My good friend from the SER camp ..Henry comes over and brings some other SER guys ..Dave and Rich ... they are on the forum ..I expected Red to come too but I heard he fessed up (thats redman007 for all you forum folks)
Henry told me in advance he'd do the harness transfer for me ..just get the motor out ..so I have the old motor on the floor..and the new motor on a hydraulic cart I just picked up..
For those of you who work alot on motors and don't have much workbench space ....get a hydraulic cart ..it holds lots of weight and lowers and raises ..ideal for motor work..
Well bottom line with the help of the SER crew what I didn't get to transfer was transferred over to the DET ..new clutch installed...extra toys put on ...and the engine was put in!!
Unfortunately, it was getting late and folks had to work today so I have about an hour or two of work left of putting lines back, axles back in and refilling liquids ..hopefully the engine will fire up today!
I guess the moral to this lengthy story is to get your friends together when you want to do the install ...time will fly by and it'll be tons of fun. For those of you who live in jersey and need a place to do your swaps ..who knows maybe i'll open up my garage and invite the buddies over and we'll do it for you ..just bring your wallet ...beer aint cheap!
