Quick question...is a pusher or puller fan more effective?

for our cars as well as rx7's they use pullers. so I guess theses are more effective. I see pushers on old cars not new ones.

Don't think it makes much difference except for packaging. Just make sure the fan is shrouded.

One thing's for sure, there weren't no pushers until electric fans came into being. I never saw one until the late '70s on a Rabbit or some such.

pullers because they dont block any air coming into the radiator

I think I heard somewhere to use a pusher...but mounted on the other side (front) of the radiator...?

Well Danny,
I can't tell you which one is more efficient. I will drop a banana out my a** & say that i would think pullers are better because the air flow thru the rad should be smoother for more complete heat transfer.
What i know for sure is that traditionaly in RWD vehicles the fan was belt driven puller. With the advent of common FWD platforms there is no convenient way to have it mechanically driven so that's where we get electrics. Freeing up the fan it can be mounted behind or in front.
It's interesting most recent BMW's (like mine), have the tradtional belt driven puller AND a 2-speed electric mounted as a pusher. Just in case. Damn these cars are overbuilt.
Bruce has got a point bout the shrouding, that will make the most difference.

Does Chris Allen ever post on this board? I think he was the one that told me to get a pusher and mount it in front.... Anyways as if it matters on my car.... I've got PLENTY of room in the engine bay (all motor) hehehe....
