: Consult Port Wiring

I have a B15 in which I am running a 1996 SE-R ECU (reprogrammed by JWT). I'm seeking to gain consult connectivity to the ECU. The FSM shows that ports 64, 65, and 68 on the ECU are used for consult data.

The piece of information I am seeking is the pinout of the actual consult port (in cabin) and where each pin should connect to (ECU pin numbers would be great).

Can anyone provide me with that information or at least steer me in the direction of where I can find it?

Maybe this thread will help you.

Thanks, but that applies to the OBD connector, which I am all set with. I'm trying to find information about the consult interface to the ECU.

tx/rx/clk to pins on ecu, i normally wire up 12v/gnd to the same ignition switch power supply the ecu has (no idea what circuit the consult port is normally on)

not 100% that TX on ecu goes to TX on consult port or whether theyre back to front (tx to rx and rx to tx) so dont solder it etc until you've confirmed it works

That's a great help. Do you happen to know what ECU pins correspond to what pins on the consult port?

From the 1996 FSM I have the following:
64 (G/B) - 0V
65 (GY/L) - 4-9V
68 (G/W) - 3.5V

I can use trial and error if necessary and share my results.

you would need to use a ecu pinout i assume? the FSM should tell you the pins used for clk/tx/rx, often they even show a wiring diagram with the ecu pins routed to actual consult connector.

I pulled the PIN numbers from the FSM. I'm still trying to find a consult port diagram in the FSM to see if it maps the pin number back on the ECU.

Based on what I could figure out on the diagrams so far is seems the Consult pins map to the ECU in the following way.

RX - ECU 64
TX - ECU 65
CLK - ECU 68

I will follow up once I have confirmed that this will work.

awesome info here.

did you just pick up a consult connector from a junkyard to wire in?

You could do that (or purchase a new Consult conenctor from a place like Blazt).

In my case I am going to opt to wire the consult wires from the ECU directly to a USB cable, since that is the interface I will be using to connect to my laptop.

what is teh check pin for in the picture above?

when u short check and ign, you get the manual flashing of errors codes on the MIL on the dash in some cars (all of them?). its not required to be wired up unless you want to keep that functionality, because consult only uses the other 5 wires, not check.

A few months back I wired in the Consult port and tested it to make sure everything was working. I can confirm that the pins on the consult port should be connected as follows:

RX - ECU Pin 64
TX - ECU Pin 65
GND - ECU Pin 10 or 11
CLK - ECU Pin 68
Power - ECU Pin 56

These are the ECU pin numbers I used with the 1996 SE-R ECU in my B15. Double check your ECU pinout first to make sure none of them have changed.

You could also opt to pull power and ground from somewhere inside the cabin, but I decided to run everything back to the ECU.

Previously I also talked about wiring everything directly to a USB cable. I decided against that as I thought it might limit my options if I needed/wanted someone with a true consult device to connect to my ECU. The consult dash plug can be pulled from a car at a junkyard or Blazt also sells new ones for about $15.
