: Installing Walbro 255 (got tips?)

Hey I've search the archives and the forum under the tech
section and just did this section also, to know avail. What I need to know is any tricks
or heads up info when I go to install my Walbre 255.
What's the easiest way to remove the rear seats?
What's the easiest way to get the fuel pump out?
Should I buy anything else new besides the pump before
before I start my mission?
Help me out LM!

Easy as pie, there are a couple of bolts that hold the rear seat bottom down it the back where the folding seat is, remove them, and pull the clips on the front of the rear seat amd its out. then there should be 3-10mm bolts to remove the cover, unplug the pump, mark your fuel lines, remove them. then take the 6(maybe 8) 8mm bolts out, and mark and remove those lines, and unplug anything. this should be the gas gauge. then remove the pump fron the bottom of the tank and FOLLOW the direction, and use the clamps. have fun.

yeah twice, then changed the tank, and installed the fuel pump with the new tank out.

We took the pump outta the parts car
Installed it in your car
Changed your tank
and installed the walbro..

So you should be an expert :-P

As I just finished doing this pump swap, I think it's the good time to write about it.

I had some problems with the first cover (grey one on my nx), because the rust kept two bolts from turning. Wise grip.

Unplug the harness from the white plastic cover. There are 6 8mm bolts (rusted too on my car). They all went off quite well except for the one under the metal sheet, just behind the lines... PITA to get it out of there. Wise grip though!

Mark the lines that attach to the white cover (IN and OUT, follow the arrows). Get the white cover out, unplug the harness and before unplugging the two other rubber lines, mark them (in and out). I used a paper and electrical tape. The remove those lines. The gauge assembly should now go out. Put it in a safe place.

The you should be able to access the pump. To remove it from where it is, there's a plastic tag just behind it, it's orange. While you hold this tag, pull out the pump.

BE CAREFUL NOT TO CUT YOURSELF ON THE EDGE OF THE TANK. It happened to me... hehe

Then the installation is quite easy...

The positive wire on our car is the black and red. The negative wire is the black one.

All you have to now is do the same thing in reverse!

I did the fuel pump on Wednesday. It was too easy. Besides being a bone head
and filling up the gas tank the day before and working in gas it went fine.
Yes my car definitely was starving from fuel! Took it for a spin and thought
I had installed a header/CAI combo on it :D

BTW, you should buy an O-ring to replace your old one. Mine wasn't fitting at all after the installation and gas was going out of the tank.

My o-ring was pefectly fine ;) I'm glad it was because I didn't have another one. My only tip is to make sure you don't do like I did and have more than a 1/4 tank of gas. Working elbow deep in gas is no fun:eek: Also to avoid the cuts that many experienced doing this I jsstu lifted on the front of the plastic housing that contains the fuel pump to get it out. It slid right back into place ;)

Yeah I did it myself, get some loose nut because the 8mm bolts were all rusted. It would have taken me 2 hours if not the rusted bolts.

and they mentioned an install kit. i wasn't aware that there was a kit for the pump. what is in the kit and is it necessary?

I'm about to install my second walboro (sp?) 255lp/hr pump. This time I went with the high pressure model.

For some reason I only got about 9 months out of this fuel pump, now it drops pressure after some moderate driving under boost and won't hold pressure after the car is shut off.

Not to stray too much off topic, how much life are you guys getting out of these pumps ?

From http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com , I'm not sure if this is his stock number or the Walboro part number but the 255 l/hr is part number FPN014 and the high pressue is FPN015 for 95-99 nissan 200sx/sentra 1.6 and 2.0
The high pressure one is able to flow more above 70psi of pressure than the other 255l/hr pump
