turn it over by hand and see if oil is coming out of the oil squirters in the head. Also check and see if there is oil in the car, do you hear any noises when you start it up usually when the pickup cant pickup oil it makes a whining noise like a powersteering pump going bad type of noise

Since your getting a new oil pump, why don't you take old one off and check it. Then if you find anything wrong with the pump then you know for sure it's the pump.

What makes you so certain it's low oil pressure. From what I can tell the only symptom is a rough idle which can be caused by any number of things.
Throw on a fresh oil filter, start the car and let it run for a 10-15 sec then check the filter to see if there is any oil in the filter.
Oil pump failures are pretty rare, are you sure this shop is trustworthy?

I had an oil pump go on my VE when I got the motor shipped. I had the dummy light come on at idle but it turned off when the engine revved up. If he;s got the dummy light, the pressure is VERY low. Where did you order the pump from? Are they back ordered from GregV?
Good luck, and I would second kuneho and take the oil pump off, since it's gotta be done anyways. Did the shop put on a crank pulley on your SR? If so, I think that is what the issue is. I had that problem with my VE. We ran a DE crank with a VE spacer back when it was thought that they were interchangeable. Just a thought...

im not saying the rough idle is due to low oil pressure, i just dont want to run it long enough to fix the idle because of no oil pressure. i will try the oil filter again and see what it does but what car in the u.s. can i use for the srdet ? i know its some kind of sentra ? and thanks i appreciate the help guys
