FastNX was out in his first regional race in his NX2000 at Mosport GP track. He was running 1:43.xxx's and was looking good. As the weekend progressed he had some overheating issues - the overheating wasn't corrected when a mazda mirror came through his passenger side rear window. It was a battle with weather as it was heavy rain, light rain, fog, sunshine, humidity and it rotated throughout the day - sometimes within the hour. Well done, Jeff. It was a pleasure to help you out! His best finish was fourth - awesome result for a first wheel to wheel race.:biggthump

Thanks Frank, I really appreciate your help this weekend. I must admit I am disappointed with the 1:43 flat as a best time, although the tires had over 20 heat cycles before the weekend even started....I really couldn't push very hard through any of the corners...although I did take corner 4 flat out without lifting which was nice. I think brand new tires should be worth a second and a half which will put me where I want to be.

Just to clarify what Frank was talking about, it was raining cats and dogs Sunday morning, and the rain stopped about 40-50 minutes before the race started, but the sun did not come out and it looked like it would rain again. We gambled and set the car up for wet, but by the time the green flag dropped, about 80% of the track was dry so I was slower than I would have been with a dry setup. I had a side by side collision with a Mazda RX7 at about 180km/h and I heard a loud crash, I though it was just the quarter panel being bent. When the race was over I asked if there was any damage to the car and the answer I got was "oh my, your window is missing". The Mazda's mirror shattered my rear triangular window. The driver of the Mazda said my glass was flying all over his cockpit, but the incident was really nobody's fault and we both laughed it off.

In the extreme heat and humidity of the final race Sunday afternoon the engine was running hotter than I would have liked so I pulled off the track a lap or two before the race ended. I still have to determine whether the engine survived or not.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I hope to be out to one more race this year, but I am not sure if that will be possible. Thanks again Frank!

hey Jeff do you have any pictures of your car at the track ? are you running a de ?

Yes, I am running a DE. The only engine mods are a crank scraper, AEBS header, JWT POP charger, 2.5" side exit exhaust, Fidanza flywheel and UR crank pulley. I get worked by every car on the straight but the car has an amazing suspension, even with 205 width old RA1s I passed a Camaro with 235 Hoosiers and several others in the corners. Even when the GT1 cars (race prepped Porsche GT3, C6 Corvettes, Viper, etc) lapped me they were not much faster around the corners.

Several people took pics but I have not seen any of them yet. The only ones online as of now are here about 2/3 down the page you can see my black NX:

I wish I could have been there to see you race and help out...
Hopefully I can make it if you run the enduro.

FastNX, the pictures are nice but did you know you got your car on (Inter)National TV?
The Speed channel show The Grid (sponsored by Mobil1) did a segment that featured this race, focusing on Porsche 968 driver Paul Meyers and Nissan 240Z driver Diane Dale. In 2 or 3 of the shots of the on-track action, I saw your black NX with red tape on the headlights. This show generally is shown on Sat. at 12AM & 6:30PM and Sun. at 3PM. I have it recorded on my DVR if you can't get tape a copy yourself.
You can also try looking up the footage at www.grid1.tv.

WOW!
Jeff, you're famous! We saw them taping but didn't know what show they were. Wasn't it sad to see what happened to Diane's beautiful 240Z! Thanks Tim!

The NX looks good! What is your suspension setup?

Wow! Thanks for the info Tim. I don't have access to Speed Channel so I won't be able to see it on TV.

Actually, Frank (nissannx) told me to watch my appearance whenever the TV camera was on, since Paul was right beside me in the paddock.

The NX looks good! What is your suspension setup?

Bits & Pieces coilovers with Koni 8611 shocks and Eibach 600/650 springs, Progress sway bars and corrected front end geometry that is adjustable for track width, roll centre, bump steer, etc just like a Speed World Challenge car. Unfortunately I am only running 205 RA1s and basically a stock motor with minor bolt ons, so that definitely limits how fast the car is. I run in the GT5 class which is typically 5 seconds slower per lap than the GT4 cars featured on the TV show. If I had more time and money I could develop the car to run in GT4 or even GT3, which runs about the same lap times as front running World Challenge cars (Realtime Racing, etc.)

Cool!

(although I'm searching the site and I can't find the footage yet...)

What happened to Diane's car? I hope it's not a total write-off. And I can assume she's ok, otherwise you wouldn't be talking about her car...!

I couldn't find the footage either.

The Z was hit passenger side door in turn 5 (Mosport) by an overtaking Porsche. Two beautiful cars from very different decades. Drivers were fine - all this happened about a month ago. TV just isn't always right up to date.

Thanks Frank and Tim for finding the video. I think that was a pretty accurate depiction of what GT sprints is all about.....except they needed more NX2000 footage ;)

Interesting to see that RX7 wreck, I heard it was a write-off but the car left on the trailer before I got a chance to see it.
