: What can cause clutch chatter?

Just put in a new ClutchSpecialties clutch setup: 2000 lb PP and fibertuff street disc. Also have a Fidanza Aluminum flywheel with a new friction disc.

When I engage first gear, the clutch really chatters (thats my best description) like it is not grabbing. I have to give it a lot of gas and slip the clutch for it to engage. Going to 2nd gear its a lot less noticeable but still there. Shifting at highway speeds between say 3 - 5th is no problem.

I have a newly rebuilt tranny by JGY Customs with a Quaife LSD and Redline MT-90 fluid.

Since I have so many new/rebuilt parts, how many different things could be causing this issue? I don't believe that the clutch cable being too loose or too tight would cause this.

new clutches tend to chatter when they are not broken in, wait till its broken in. if it still persist, it could be chattering because the friction surfaces were not properly cleaned

I've had several brand new clutches in my time and none of them ever felt like this incl. my latest ACT HD PP w/ street disc.

I heard that grease or whatever on the friction surface could cause this situation but the guy who installed it ( I wasn't looking at the time) said he cleaned it. If this was the cause, wouldn't it only be a temporary problem i.e. the grease would burn off or be rubbed off after a little while?
