I saw the ad on ebay and called them up since they were local. I asked about the engines and was told they were tested to be within factory spec. I asked again in person if they had compression or leakdown numbers to share and was told no but they are tested and within factory spec and come with 3 month warranty.

I bought/picked up an engine on Tuesday 8/11/09 and for the heck of it we did a leakdown test yesterday evening 8/13/09 and the numbers were HORRID. Leakdown showed 80%, 20%, 30%, 60% (obviously crappy motor).

I called this morning 8/14/09 to say I didn't appreciate being lyied to about 'within factory spec' and was told they do NOT do a leakdown but do compression test and it was fine (within spec). I point out there is no possible way it could have a normal (within factory spec) compression test with 80% leakdown like that.

I drove back into the city, returned the engine and got my money back.

Any buyer use your own judgement if/when dealing with them!

I know I have bought a previous motor that showed signs of a bad leakdown test, but after they sit around for so long you may want to put some oil in the cylinder and spin the crank. Also sometimes the Valves are a bit sticky and don't close completely. I have just tapped on the rockers and lubed them and after a nice touch up Leakdown tests were positive... less than 10% leakage...

The 1st clue in this case was a badly oil fouled #1 spark plug (the same one with the 80% leakdown results).. #2 and #3 were not badly oil fouled and #4 was (with the 60% leakdown results)

If the leakdown was 20 to 30% across all 4, I could have chalked it up to sitting around engine... but not 80% and badly oil fouled and all that air in the block.. no thanks
