Mndgy 09-11-2002, 07:20 PM ....Damn charlie, I'm jealous. How did you polish the valve cover?...by hand or with a drill. Nice oil cap....:D.....I have a nismo key...no oil cap yet......the intake manifold looks nice and clean. Everything look so nice...AH I can't take it anymore...going to go get some toothbrushes for my avenir....
Sirnixalot 09-11-2002, 07:56 PM i love how clean it looks. Did you powder coat the alternator? And what did you use to polish the valve cover?
again it looks very nice
muleman 09-11-2002, 08:07 PM ok motor is mint but the old tranny looks like crap:rolleyes:

Don't worry muleman the tranny you see is my spare one there will be a cleaner one to match the engine once I get around to it. I put the spare tranny on for fitment purposes for the bracket I am going to make for the intake by the way the black hose to the compressor housing is the stock 91-93 SR20DE one. It close but this isn't the finished product yet. I'll post some more when I get the chance.

By hand and drill. First I used green roug (sp) clay bar with a cutting wheel until it was uniforn shiny then I used a finishing wheel with the same green clay bar and it got more shiny then I used Mothers Aluminum Polish by hand and this is the finsihed product. If I could go back I'd have rather pay someone to polish it (it's real time consuming) honestly I want a powder coated VC blue like my SAMCO hoses.

Thanks. No the alternator is not powder coated but it is HTP coated by me, I used POR 20 for that matter on every thing you see that appears to be new, this stuff is really good thats all I have to say about it buy it you'll love it.

You no I haven't really thought about that, but I will say this I am going to take every single little percaution I can about keeping the engine bay as cool as possible. I'm going to probably thermo wrap the turbo maifold and compressor outlet pipe and put a thermo sheet under neith the part that crosses over the VC so to try and avoid any heat soak. And run a mixture of 35% antifreeze to 65% water with water wetter and make a nice hood scoop and of course bypass the coolant line to the TB and have a CAI to the turbo. And cross my fingers.
turbo b13 se-r 09-11-2002, 11:52 PM I've been runnin tmic for a little over a year now and it still runs good....albeit you do lose power caused by heat soak. I will be goin fmic by the end of the month.
Sirnixalot 09-12-2002, 09:41 AM thanks for the paint info! another ? though...where did you get Samco stuff in the US? Or did you get them from the UK. I am doing a blue thing with my car aswell and that is the tightest blue ive ever seen on silicone couplings. I cna only get them outta the UK:( so its a bit pricey but if push comes to shove thats where i have to get them from
PULSSSAR 09-12-2002, 10:12 AM Those engine pics look great! how clean is that.... damn.

anything thats metal is polished or chromed, even the wiper motor, distributer, alternator, turbo, which you cant see in those pics, and so on....
hardcore :)
enjoy.... more to come soon
Mndgy 09-12-2002, 10:18 AM AHHHH MY EYES!!!!!....:D
That is the NICEST and CLEANEST, DAMN SHINY also, engine pics I've ever seen....You should wright a book,or at least show up some more pics.
charlie2020 09-12-2002, 02:20 PM Damn PULSSSAR you can perform open heart surgery on that engine bay.
SR20RACER 09-12-2002, 03:39 PM Charlie2020:
I went to that por20 site and saw that there was 3 different kinds. Which one did you use, and how much did you buy to do your motor? Is the application easy? I am going to do this for sure before I put my mototr back together. THX
charlie2020 09-12-2002, 04:37 PM The one I used was (POR-20 Brilliant Aluminum Coating 8oz).
If you make a mistake it comes off easy with soap and water as long as you do not cure it.
I recommend after you paint what ever you do that you cure it in the oven @ 300-400 degress for 45min because this paint doesn't cure until it reaches a temp of 300 degrees. And beside some of the parts I painted will never see that high a temp, therefore it would never cure and come off. Cure everything first before you put it on the engine that way it can be handled and if you get it dirty it can be washed off with out fear of removeing the uncured paint.
PULSSSAR 09-12-2002, 07:07 PM Thanks for the comments... It's been 6 weeks so far to get it like that... although the braided lines arent on in those pictures.
All the engine bay wiring, including all the fuse and relay boxes is gone, all removed totally and re-routed outside of the engine bay, totally hidden. The only wire you see is (if you look very hard) the crank angle/TPS/coil wires.. which are in thin black conduit and even still hidden carefully... the injector wiring is all redone totally also... very hard to see. The black plastic injector caps will be chromed in good time.. (when chroming becomes cheaper).
The oil cap needs to be nismo, the brake and pwt steer caps will be chromed. The brake lines on the firewall will be chromed, in that pic the gearbox is standard looking, ive since polished it. HAHAHA
I polished some of these things (cant remember everything). Cam cover, alternator, water housings, thermostat, throttle body, throttle cable bracket and other bits, filed and polished the intake runners and also chopped off and filed back all the ports/threads on it that i didnt need (all of them), distributer, airflow meter was modified and polished, wiper motor was modified and polished, main engine mount, fuel rail (very modified hard!) injector caps, fuel regulator, fuel filter, exhaust manifold cover, turbo covers, radiator cap, the entire turbo compressor side, water lines, actuator... the front mount, the pipes, the clamps
urgh i dont remember, if its metal its done, put that way. Chroming was radiator brackets, brake line brackets, strut tower brace brackets, powersteering resevoir and bracket, clutch cable bracket and connectors/nuts, pod filter cage, all tow hooks, bonnet latch, bonnet support, bonnet hinges..
hahaha oh god.
I'm glad you like it, ive bled a lot for it.
I will have more pictures by next week... ive been keeping them under wraps here in australia... there's a show coming up :) will release more as it gets closer to the show date...
Also, not saying I'm all show and no go, Ive done a 13.7 sec pass on the strip all standard, standard t25, stock boost, the lot... I also plan to go mental with a T04E or simular next year :)
anywayz, off to work, chat later lads :)
James
SR20RACER 09-12-2002, 07:12 PM Charlie: So if I have a old manifold, turbo I can juse degrease them and cleam them good then brush this stuff on and put it in the oven a VOILA I have parts that look like yours?
charlie2020 09-12-2002, 08:16 PM Yes, mine did not look that pretty either when I just got the engine.
SR20RACER 09-12-2002, 08:20 PM God, looking at my last thread I can't spell worth shit. I am going to copy you and do the same thing witth the turbo and manifold. I think it looks good. Since I have my head off I will do that also. Thanks Charlie, and I am buying a Apexi turbo timer for $87 shipped from a forum member. THX for the advice
