For you guys running a splitter and undertray, what material did you use?

I am thinking of using 1/4" plywood. Any thoughts or experiences to share?

special high speed wainscotting is very popular :). thin leuan type material. some even paint it white so it looks not so wood like :)

Yeah I was thinking of using 2x6 framing so I can fit an R24 Roxul batt, and have it on 24" centres to reduce thermal bridging.

But seriously though, I prefer wood over aluminum, partly because it's easier to work with, partly because I may end up making a few before I'm happy with the end product and I don't want to waste too much money throwing away imperfect aluminum splitters. I know Roger Foo had a plywood splitter on his Civic when he won World Challenge at Laguna 7-8 years ago. Just wanted to know if 1/4" is an appropriate thickness of wood or if anyone had any USEFUL tips ;)

Yep, I'm the latest one to go the wainscotting route. One thing I liked was it was strong enough to withstand the aero forces put upon it at speed, yet it is a point of failure if you hit something. This keeps other stuff under the front from breaking as well. Plus it's easy to source and easy to work with.

Actually, wainscotting is what Greg Amy had used on the NX as his splitter / undertray material but it needs to be painted black, not white.

Scott and I have three air dam/splitters that Greg Amy had custom made out of fiberglass for his NX. Supposedly, they also fit on the B13 Sentras pretty well (which we bought them for). We never installed them due to the switch from SE-R Cup to PTE. Let me know if anyone is interested in buying them.

Isn't wainscoting the paneling stuff people put on their dining room walls? What do you do with the grooves?

Yeah baby! Couple bucks a piece at Menards!
The grooves are like dimples on a golf ball - makes it go faster...
