Can we make this a sticky?

I now this is a shady area in which people drop the ball because they assume you don't have to use the AIV solenoid and for that matter the incorrect hook up of the EGR solenoid which is more commonly retained. What brought this to my attention was a post that was referring someone to the December issue of SCC for info on swapping a DET.

And I quote "Connecting the charcoal canister is slightly trickey. We retained the solenoid from the SR20DE and put it on the SR20DET. The large hose from the canister connects to a fitting on the side of the intake manifold, just past the throttle body. The smaller vacuum hose from the canister to the fitting on the side of the solenoid. Run a small vacuum hose from the bottom of the solenoid to the open vacuum fitting on the throttle body just below the butterfly. The remaining fitting on the solenoid is connected to a vacuum line between the solenoid and the intake piping.

Now I'm going to try and clear things up.

Now were looking at the charcoal canister.

1) Fuel Tank goes to fuel tank via the fuel line under the chasis

2) Purge goes to the big tube on the side of the throttle body aiming down ward.

(Looking at the EGR solenoid)
3) VC signal (valve control) goes to the side (plastic) of the EGR solenoid.

Now were looking at the EGR solenoid.

FOR ALL PURPOSES WE NEED SOME TYPE OF OREINTATION OF THE SOLENOIDS WHAT IS TOP AND WHAT IS BOTTOM I AM GOING TO REFER TO THE (1) HARD METAL FITTING ON BOTH THE SOLENOIDS AS TOP AND THE 2 PLASTIC FITTINGS AS BOTTOM.

4) Run a vacuum hose from the bottom (plastic) of the EGR solenoid to the top (metal) of the AIV solenoid with a T-fitting in-line running off to the intake in between the turbo and MAF.

5) Run a vacuum hose from the top (metal) of the EGR solenoid to the fitting underneith the throttle body.

6) Run a vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator to the bottom (plastic) of the AIV solenoid with a T-fitting in-line running to the port on the side of the throttle body pointing upward.

7) Leave the last fitting (side plastic) AIV solenoid open, put some guaz to filter it.

8) You are done.

Don't worry if you are lost becasue Im going to post some pics for you probably tommorow.

The above mainly applys to stock ECU guys like my self.

A little bit about EGR Gas Temp Sensor.

Don't disable this this fine piece of sensoring equipment the correct way is to route this sensor back into your exhaust system, probably a really good place for this would be on the exhaust elbow (remember stock wasn't on the manifold so don't put it there this is not an after market EGT sensor but instead one that lets the ECU know when its cold and when its hot). This sensor has some weight on the idleing of California cars as does the AIV solenoid talked about above.

ok now with no aiv egr bpt crap . how would you guys do it. Thank god for the Tb plate stop nut. can't wait to see some BB eng.at the next NY meet though.

That is the way you route it without the EGR, BPT and AIV. Believe me this is the correct way, minusing the ABOVE: this is also true to work on JWT ECU that supposibly (sp) have that above stuff eliminated, it will idle like stock again but you have to follow it to the T.

Most of us, or atleast I admit it, are monkey tuners and we work well with pictures do you have any so that I can try and understand you a little better I get it but not looking at anything right now maybe when I print this out and look at my car while I'm doing this it will be better but if you can post some pictures or e-mail me some let me know, kenley_ser@Yahoo.com
